The thing is I think I will still be lost until this story arc is done. Then I can figure out where it fits.
Event books basically work like this: Until said event wraps up just assume that every current storyline takes place before the event. Also, if a current storyline wraps up an issue or two after the event it still takes place before the event unless otherwise stated.

Yes, he was essentially chosen as a figurehead, but the Shi'ar, under Gladiator, were reduced to being vassals of the Kree. He now seems to be an independent Emperor again with no explanation as to why. It doesnt remotely matter, it just annoys me

They were vassals of the Inhumans-led Kree; there's a lot up in the air with respect to the new Kree regime.

I agree it'd be nice to get some clarity either way, but that's more on Hickman at this point.

Yes, If the Inhumans no longer rule the Kree, who does? What is Ronan's standing? Are the Shi'ar no longer vassals? If so, shouldn't the throne have reverted to the only surviving member of the Nermani family, Deathbird? Those and many other questions should be answered quite promptly by whoever does take up the Cosmic line.

    Peace

Some of that has been answered, in regards the Kree are now ruled by a new Supremor, after Ronan thought it would be wise to bring him back. Ronan was wrong, Supremor was his usual evil self and so Ronan and Crystal helped stop his plan.

I assume Ronan is now exiled and likely with Crystal on the Moon. The Shi'ar situation could be anything from a writer/editor not picking up on it, or space politics happening and us never getting an answer. Indeed, the Shi'ar could still be vassals, or at least tributaries, but allowed to act autonomously in some matters.

I get its his favorite, but now he's just showing how lazy and uninspired
he is. He's better off writing the next Blade or some other street hero.
I think the inspiration here is more along the lines of Thanos' original appearance by Starlin. There Thanos used lackeys extensively (the Blood Brothers, Super-Skrull, and Controller) and sought the cosmic cube to transform himself into God. The idea here seems very similar.

Glad the GotG are back. Not digging Quill's reversion to his old uniform. I also miss Mantis and Cosmo.

    My thoughts after reading:

    Why is Quill blonde?
    Why is Quill alive?
Why is Thanos, for that matter?
    Or Drax?
    Where the hell is Groot?
Why is Bug on the team?
    When did Ship come back?
How does the army just make a Cosmic Cube?
Why does Thanos give a rat's @$$ what some council thinks?
    Rocket Raccoon is awesome.

I feel like Bendis was only marginally aware of the Guardians. The team as is feels like what someone would think the team was by flipping through some issues and then wiki-searching those 5 and only reading the first paragraph of their bio.

Legion_Quest covered most of this, but I thought I'd mention that Deathbird was last seen comatose and on life support. Even if she weren't, though, returning her to power would reverse Gladiator's entire War of Kings character arc.

Ship is seen, briefly, but has no dialog in this issue.

Every one of those questions is spot on. But that one is absolutely the best.

The upcoming Ronan/Crystal story in Fantastic Four should answer this
