Default What Spidey title should i read, if i love the New movie?

Hi. I've watched the new Spider-man Movie earlier tonight and i really loved it. I liked exspecialy how Peter Parker was portraited. I loved his lines and his "coolness", but also his shy and clumsy behaviour.*

I always liked the Character and i've been reading Comics for a long time, but i never started to read Spidey. I want to change that. But what title should i buy to get something similar to the movie?

Ultimate Spider-man ( from the beginning or later?)
    Miles Morales Spidey
    The amazing Spider-man

    What should i get?

Sorry for my english. I need to use it a lot more*

Of the choices, I'd say Ultimate Spider-Man from the beginning. It's probably the closest in tone except when it comes to Gwen.

Other than that, I'd say The Amazing Spider-Man (from the beginning).

Actually, you could also check out "Untold Tales of Spider-Man". It's a more modern take (from the 90s) on the early days of Spidey. The whole series has been collected in Omnibus form, and series writer Kurt Busiek really liked the new movie, too.

Hey, man. Welcome aboard the Spidey train. I tought the movie rocked too!

Anyway, the movie (I thought) did a great job of pulling from both the regular Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe. I wouldn't say that the movie is essential for reading either universe, but both are enjoyable in their own rights. I would recommend getting your hands on the first trade of Ultimate Spider-Man and seeing what you think. I would also check out some of the original Spidey too. He has such a rich history, you can pretty much pick from any era and there will be something that grabs your eye. If you want some suggestions, there is a "50 Greatest Spider-Man Stories" thread on this board. I would start there.

    Happy reading!

Amazing spider-Man cause it's currently Amazing.

You can jump on board with issue #688 which has the Lizard as the primary villain.

The Writer is Dan Slott and if you want to read from the beginning of his run you'd need 6 Trades.
    1. Big Time Ultimate Collection
    2. Return of Anti-Venom
    3. Spider-Island (A Brilliant Book and one any spider-man fan should own)
    4. Flying Blind
    5. Trouble on the Horizon
    6. Ends of the Earth (Out Late July/Early August)

Ultimate Spider-Man recently had an omnibus releasec ollecting siisues 1-39 and issue 1/2 so if you wanna read Ultimate Spidey you could get that from there it's eitherw aiting for teh second omnibus or collecting the HC/TPB.

as for miles morales you can grab Volumes 1 and 2 in HC/TPB and start with the upcoming issue 13 though it'll be part of divided we fall so you'd need x-men and ultimates as well. i'd say best wait and just grab the third hc/TPB and start with issue 16.1 in october.

But Amazing Spider-Man would be my pick.
There's also avenging spdier-man which see's spider-man team up with different heroes every issue.

Pick up Amazing Spider-Man from the beggining. That's the true Spider-Man. Avoid fakes one like Ultimate Peter or Miles Morales.

If you're interested in the source material of the film, I made a list of the comics that I thought were an influence on the movie.

A self-contained TPB you might enjoy is Spider-Man: Blue.
The Ultimate Spider-Man books are an ongoing series, collected in TPB form, that should be rather accessible. If you liked the film, I would start at the beginning, just because the stuff is so damn good.

And as noted, Amazing Spider-Man #688 was the start of a new arc with the Lizard as the villain. So that should be an inexpensive entry-level point.

Throw in another vote for "Ultimate Spider-Man" starting way way way back at "Power & Responsibility" (it's over 10 years old so not many twitter references in the early issues)

The first two trades of USM (Power and Responsibility and Learning Curve) are really good source material if you're looking for Spider-Man in his early days as a teen. Yes, even the mask getting taken off A LOT is shown in this early version. If you're interested in his parents, you should definitely check out the Venom trade from the Ultimate Spider-Man series, which goes more in depth about his parents' lives as scientists. Also, if you're interested in the power that Peter receives, you should check out Legacy as they go into more depth about what really gave Peter his powers and his connections (GASP) with Norman Osborn. And if you are all for the Captain Stacy hating on Spider-Man, you should check out Public Scrutiny as well. So, basically the first six TPBs would be a good start in the Ultimate version (I didn't mention Double Trouble because there isn't much from the movie that needs to be covered, however it still is really good).

Now to mainstream stuff you should check out. You should definitely check out Peter and Gwen's relationship in the comics if you enjoyed the portrayal of it in here. The first appearance of Gwen is in "If This Be My Destiny" which is Issue #31 of the original the Amazing Spider-Man (Lee/Ditko run). You can find this in the third volume of The Amazing Spider-Man's MARVEL MASTERWORKS (which are reprints of the originals). For this relationship to take its full course, you should read until after the arc "The Night Gwen Stacy Died", which begins, I think, at #121, although I could be mistaken. If you are interested in Spidey's battles with Lizard, you should check out the first volume of the MARVEL MASTERWORKS where Peter does fight the Lizard. The Lizard is reintroduced later (in a more modern setting) in SHED which is fairly good, leading into Grim Hunt. Then, there is the current Lizard arc going on in comics right now featuring Morbius.

I think this covers everything. Glad you enjoyed the movie as much as I did.

I recommend Ultimate Spider-Man, but I advice you start at the beginning.

Just jump right in with the new issue of amazing. You can always go back later to other things. Comics are serial fiction.
