Marvel have explicitly said that their core titles will be re-launched in the months come. They've said it will be a slow launch with new #1s every week from October.
They have also said that some titles will return and others will be replaced. Still, all this info gets spread out over multiple sources which Marvel uses to create interest. Brevoort just likes making flippant comments to stir the pot. People wouldn't need so much 'hand holding' if Marvel wasn't canceling, relaunching, renaming, renumbering, etc etc etc something else every other month. I mean what can be so big the UXM needs to be canceled and relaunched twice in 12 months. I can tell you that the last change didn't warrant it and the excuses they used didn't last long enough anyway. And that is the big thing, all this talk about setting things up for years of stories gets tossed out every year. Schism was absolutely pointless and Marvel sells their stories as having lasting impact, so it is no surprise that everytime Marvel mixes things up people are left wondering what they will be reading in six months.

Have you read Marvel's October solicitations? I don't mind hyping books, comes with the territory, but boy...they are overhyping. Everything is EPIC, NEVER SEEN BEFORE, SHOCKING, YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE, SET THE INTERNET ON FLAMES!!!!!!!!!

    I laughed in disbelief.

I only noticed this post when Wolf quoted it, but it's worth pointing out that the guy who complained about readers needing hand holding also contradicted the general information Marvel released about Marvel Now and said there would be only one Marvel Now #1 in October. As it stands, it seems that he was right and the general information was wrong.

Now in fairness to Tom, the solicits usually give plenty of advance notice about what's happening or not happening, but is it any wonder people want things spelt out when they're told different things by the same people?
My comic collection. Go on, have a look. You know you want to .

Suffice it to say but all this talk about books being lost forever is ridiculous. The "core" marvel books will never go away. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Incredible Hulk, and Fantastic Four will be relaunched shortly with new #1 issues.

We should also be seeing Minimum Carnage (Venom and Scarlet Spider), Point One, Punisher War Journal, and eventually Agents of Smash, Nova, Guardians, etc...
Yep. Marvel's prized gimmick has been to relaunch a title as #1. I think what threw fans a surprised was relaunching a high profiles title like Uncanny XMen into All New XMen. I seriously doubt anyone saw that coming.

Trades have gotten crazy expensive. I won't go to $4 per issue, but I will cut back on what I buy.

The cancelled titles did not bother me.
My favorite titles look like will not be changed (Daredevil,Amazing Spider-Man)
And i am looking forward to see how the new marvel titles will be.
Uncanny Avengers looks way cool for example.
    Pull List:Uncanny Avengers,Avengers,Superior Spider-Man,Daredevil,Captain America,Thor:God of Thunder,Swamp Thing.

I only want Thor to get a great creative team this time after Fraction's horrendous run.

I do not consider myself a troll but I am complaining. Truth is, Marvel is having zero consideration for long-term readers.

And these readers are not exactly old. If you started following Marvel at the age of 15 and you are now 21, is that too old?

Their current behavior to me seems like "Hey...we are Marvel. Hey...we are DC. We just released some popular movies, did you like them? If you did, well, we are now launching Marvel Comics and DC Comics! That's right kids, monthly adventures featuring your favorite heroes from tv and movies!"

I mean...relauching Thor and Uncanny X-Men after 15 issues of an already relaunched series? Does that seem like a good, organized editorial to you? What about that interview George Perez gave the other day about how DC treated one of their flagship titles, Superman? What about the constant change in creative teams in a lot of DC's new 52 books?

Marvel seems to be doing a little better but not a lot. I still do not understand this new-reader politics...I came to Marvel comics at the age of 12 and I was hardly a genius. And yet I could understand the whole concept and continuity. In fact, it was continuity itself that fascinated me, the fact that all these heroes have a rich history and many adventures from their past that I could read if I want to.

Well, maybe we were all geniuses and kids these days are dumb. I don't know but, the way they are approaching this, it does seem that way.
The way I see it, as one who picked up a few Marvels over the last couple of years, is that Marvel got away from Shooter's Axiom of "every issue being a first issue for somebody'. He used to put empasis on a rock solid plot and weaving the backstory into the issue at some point or another. It could seem redundant to some long-term readers but new readers could jump on with few problems even if they came in the middle of a multi-parter or something. When I was younger I remember leaving the X-Men right around the conclusion of the first BROOD story which was around #157 or so. Several issues later I picked up an issue at a drugstore or something and I saw that "The Sleazoids" (as we called The Brood) had returned for Round Two and one of them seemed to be terrorizing Kitty Pryde (#168?). I liked it so much (and had ZERO problems figuring it out) I went to my LCS and bought all of the issues which led up to this one!

Nowadays, as others have pointed out, they seem to be writing in anticipation of a TRDPBK and it has caused them to be a little sloppy with individual issues. Even if they do another re-launch certain titles, it won't mean squat if they continue with a sloppy editorial approach to individual issues. They'll just have to relaunch them again but by that point will their readers care anymore?
