Of course he's a medieval Germanic tribeseman you fool! This ******** needs a new origin. Literally, the Krypton shit is the most well known sicence fiction, maybe even fiction, story of ALL TIME! Superman is a GERMAN! NAZI! CONCENTRATION CAMP! Which means that issue 16, Grant's final issue?, is going to focus on the Nazi Superman from Final Crisis, hence, Superman is a medieval Germanic Tribesman. I thought you were a real Sherlock, Sherlock.

You might wanna pick up the "Secrets of the Fortress of Solitude" collection, if you haven't already, Adekis. There are at least 3 stories in it where DC pretty much gave fans a tour of some of the old versions of it. The only part I didn't care for was the inclusion of the Action Comics 1989 Annual. No fortress, just the history of the Eradicator.

I liked the movie version, probably because it's the one I grew up with. Maybe he'll get one in Man Of Steel that's more to your liking.

As for the general idea of the Fortress, I think of it as the one place of Earth he can go to be Kal-El. He's Superman pretty much the world over. On the farm in Smallville, at his apartment in Metropolis or at the Daily Planet, he's Clark. He can't keep any Kryptonian artifacts in any of those places, so he needs somewhere that he can keep in touch with his roots. There's bits and pieces of Clark and Superman at the Fortress, but there can't be any trace of Kal-El anywhere else. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Well, an official interior design was released in 1998, for the Wizard special.

You're right, that does sound like something I'd like. I think I'll try to find it! Thank you.

Every guy needs a man cave. Superman needs a Super Man Cave.

When you are Superman, everybody wants a piece of you. Sure he can escape that as Clark Kent, but what's wrong with having a cool place to hang out AS Superman? The Fortress is basically every kids dream of a super secret clubhouse filled with awesome toys that are only for you.

It's also a handy place to keep advanced tech, souvenirs, etc.. that might be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Also when you have super speed, it's not so tough to zip back to civilization in a micro second when you've had enough solitude.

I'm not a fan of the cold sterile ice palace or crystal fortresses. Give me the fun silver age versions any day with all of the statues, alien zoo, etc.

I have that, too. I was just wishing they'd included the creation story of that fortress in the collection.

What was all collected in that trade? I would assume the various Pre-Crisis Fortress Of Solitude's.

"Muscles For Sale" from Superman #17, 1942 (featuring the "Secret Citadel")

"The Super-key To Fort Superman" from Action Comics #241, 1958

"Superman's Fortresses Of Solitude" from Action Comics #261, 1960

"Fortress Of Fear" from DC Special Series #26, 1981 (HUGE story with a very detailed look at the Pre-Crisis Fortress)

"Memories Of Krypton's Past" from Action Comics Annual #2, 1989 (as I said before, no Fortress)

"Creation Story" from Superman: The Man Of Steel #100, 2000

"Secrets Of The Fortress Of Solitude" from Action Comics Annual #10, 2007 (just a two-page splash of the Pre-Flashpoint Fortress)

Ah, I see. I guess they couldn't clear the use of the Fortress from the Wizard special or something. At the very least, Superman Plus The Legion Of Super-Heroes would have worked.

    AOS #461 would've been cool.
