Chillingly good stuff besides Mignola, Slint, M, Knut and really big chunks of tinfoil?Been called a 'good egg'. Been told to rock, been told to steady myself. Been told to (please) be goin' places.
Half sunk in the mud, with one eye showing / a cracked smile and hair still growing /
your hands miles apart, as if they'd never met / you were the happiest I'd seen you yet. ~ (full) lyrics to 'Exhume' by Bedhead.
Will hellboy return to earth and save the planet and the B.P.R.D
In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light
I imagine the end will be him having to succumb to bringing about the end of the world.
I think thats the only ending I'd be really happy with, the earth is just a wasteland of ashes, and the last panel shows a few lilies sprouting up.
(though of course whatever Mike does I'm sure will surprise and delight me)
Ars longa, vita brevis

Ultimately, I think Hellboy will be forced into using the armies of Hell to take the Earth, but not from humans, from the Frog-men and the Ogdru Hem. I think in King of Fear, Liz's vision was the aftermath of that moment.
...but I still don't think that's the end of the story.
I agree, for the reason of not really seeing any alternative as seeming needed. I read the Fury as if the Vigrid field would be freezeframed, like for being to play out ultimately one day.
Eventhough the parting Nimue/dragon-vessel soul managed to grab a particular heart as to be going down with her.
I think Hellboy is burdened, he has a plight. Of being the one bringing about the end of the world. The end, even if new life would be to spring up beyond it.
Like any hero or champion of war or salvation would technically be burdened by such.
Burdened by being to be extraordinary in ways others wouldn't be.
I don't think Hellboy would ever wish such to befall upon anyone other than himself, even if he wouldn't really have been wishing it upon himself.
Like really bad or *end-of-the-world God-challenging things* will be better to do yourself, should you appear destined to. For me that's like a thing champions would need to do.
I don't think B.P.R.D. would ever be restored to what it once was, never fully or straightforwardly, or only for the one final time - like as key characters to be lending Hellboy a helping hand onto coming to terms with destinies fully.
Not restored 'though, because why really? How would such add to narrative or how could narrative be to permit such, if lifelike situations so often change or prove alternate than as merely proving the ideal or perfect picture nostalgia?
There'll be quite some reading to do still, before knowing whether my gut would be sensing things right. I don't necessarily wanna be right, I'm just looking forward to all that reading!![]()

Back in "The Wild Hunt", Astaroth prophesied that Hellboy will kill Satan and throw down all Princes and Dukes of Hell.
Major spoiler: And although spoilers:end of spoilers
he didn't take up the sword, the ring and the crown, Hellboy did fulfilled one part of the prophecy subconsciously.
(How do you use spoiler tag in this forum?)
Not so sure how they will get Hellboy back to BPRD. Hellboy and BPRD have been pretty independent since "Conqueror Worm".
To merge two ongoing series into one? That would surely guarantee some huge loss in DH financial department.
Of course that wouldn't matter if the series is coming to an end after all. But still...
Mike Mignola said he will continue to work on these series 'till the day of his death,
but how are you suppose to do that when that world is already half destroyed? lol

Liz's vision didn't actually specify what Hellboy is "not strong enough" to do. It was kind of vague.
Since it was Hecate speaking to Liz, maybe that was what she meant. Hecate really loves the end of the world. But I feel like there's some room for interpretation in her words.
What if in the end Mike do a reboot of the series like 20 years in the future from now he will say .Look folks i will do a reboot of the world i have created .
In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light
The thing I've seen done in Hellboy a lot is these prophecies come true, but not necessarily in the way you expect. In Hellboy in Hell Hellboy did kill Satan (though we still don't know why), and though he didn't throw down the princes and dukes of Hell himself, he did free their slaves, and they over threw the hierarchy of Hell. So I suspect one day Hellboy will take up the ring, the sword, and the crown, though it will likely be in context very different from what we'd first assume.
As for spoiler tags, you'd use them if you were talking about a recent story outside of its own thread. In it's in its own thread, as long as the story has been published, there's no real need to use spoiler tags, but it will come down to your own judgement.

There's been waaaay too much foreshadowing put into this New World and New Race of Man for things to just plain get fixed. On the other hand, the Ogdru Jahad just sitting triumphant over the end of the world isn't very satisfying either. So in the tradition of Revelations, Ragnarok, etc, likely the human race as we know it will die out. Which isn't as bad as it might seem, there's a functioning heaven for humans even if hell is broken. My guess is Hellboy and friends DO kill off the majority of the monsters and bad guys, and Abe goes on to start a new race of man, which learns from the courage, and spirit of our humanity instead of the savagery of Rasputin and his demon masters.
