Also, consider, maybe Villain's Journey happened/is happening like a week before Azz's WW story? Comics aren't told in real-time and aren't 100% simultaneously occurring, ya know...
Indeed they are not, and in JL which is apparently ahead of the current story Diana's mother is alive, or so she says. The evidence of it being ahead is that we see her mother as a startue, and there has been no time between issues for it to be otherwise.

Diana could be lying of course, but then if she has on her lasso we enter the domain of weird characterization.

As to why she would [or should] tell people, the answer is simply justice. Why do we bother pursuing any murder case that is 25 years old? They are called the Justice League, after all.

I believe any rational human being would think twice before sending an army of superpowered beings againts her own mother and maybe do some investigation on her own first, before calling in the deal the vengeful paranoid man dressed up as a giant Bat and the green glowing soldier with license to kill, agent of a group smurfs selfimposed rulers of the galaxy.
But then again, I'm weird that way.

It's also possible Hephaestus is lying, or elaborating in a way that falsifies their activities.

Either that, or Diana hasn't told the League because she's going to send the Amazons sex-raiding to the satellite in the future.

    Or just plain misinformed?
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

HA! Now I'm imagining little Amazons dressed like the Justice League asking where babies come from, and Diana telling them "space".
Looking for artists, know I won't find any. That blows.

Again, you are arguing my original point. If Diana had found evidence that Hephaestus [and Eros, who agrees with him] was telling the truth, she would inform the League. And really, its not that hard to verify. Lasso of truth, right?

If Hephaestus is lying that would work.
If Hephaestus thinks what he's sayin is true or he's misinformed, does the lasso forces his to tell a truth he doesn't know about?

If it would work like that, Wonder Woman could just lasso any random passerby whenever she needs to know, say, the location of the bad guy's secret lair.

The question is, why would she?

Another question; has Diana, ever, handed over another Amazon to outside persecution?
Hippolyta for instance was most likely wanted by the US for invading Washington and she wasn't handed over, none of them were.

Of course it doesnt work like that, which was always the problem with the Max Lord story.

But since JL is ahead of WW, she has time to investigate and learn the truth, just as you suggested.

To my knowledge no. The gist of Gail Simone's Secret Six crossover is that the Banas responsible were tortured on Devils Island until Diana released them. Personally I never found that very satisfying, but you can read my own writing if you are interested in learning my wishes for that arc.

However, prior to AA the Amazons had never commited a crime internationally. So its difficult to say. Gail's last arc stressed the fact that Amazons dies saving Washington residents from alien invaders, and so helped redeem themselves. So effectively there is no precedent.

The point however for me is that secrets get out. As a person holding the lasso of truth Diana should value the necessity of being honest. Sure the last raid would have happened 30 years ago but it is probably that a relative or loved one of more than one of the men who died is still living and still wondering exactly what happened to the person they lost. These murders would not be just crimes against the victims but also the people who had to suffer because of the disappearence. Are these people not entitled to know exactly what happened? Or does Wonder Woman keep the Amazons dirty little secret and wait until someone finds out and tells the whole world?

And they will find out. The Gods already know, and its hard to believe that one of them would not blab. Strife for example. But even if they didnt someone will work it out.

Diana hiding this just seems incredibly unlike her. It seems logical I agree - Amanda Waller would not hesitate to cover something like up to suit her own purposes. But Wonder Woman is not Amada Waller.

They are innocent... for the moment. Diana has no way of knowing the full story just yet. It may be true. It might not. She can't get their side just yet. So nothing to tell.

Smythe only identified them as Bana, he never mentioned if they were the ones who came to Paradise Island or the nut jobs Catwoman ran into.
On top of this most of those Bana who were captured were most likely wandering around with no idea that they were Amazons.

However, prior to AA the Amazons had never commited a crime internationally. So its difficult to say. Gail's last arc stressed the fact that Amazons dies saving Washington residents from alien invaders, and so helped redeem themselves. So effectively there is no precedent.
Well there's none we know about, and thats what i read as Azzarello has done, simply added something to a mostly empty book detailing what the Amazons did with their time between arriving on Paradise Island and up to Diana's departure.
Wasnt there some golden age part of her story where half-drowned men were thrown back into the sea because the Amazons would loose their immortality if he set foot on the island?

It's men at sea, its a risky job and the people back on land know that every time those men head out, there is a chance they wont come back. I don't think it's like Batman who cant let go of something like that or people immediately believe foul play is involved, because sometimes, all it takes is bad weather and they are never seen again.

Added, Diana would have to know the names of these men...and I kinda doubt the Amazons took names or log books. Who knows really, maybe those people were pirates, into trafficking or something else they shouldn't have been. (I somehow doubt the Amazons took to the seas in row boats in hopes that they would run into a ship they could board)

And they will find out. The Gods already know, and its hard to believe that one of them would not blab. Strife for example. But even if they didnt someone will work it out.
Strife would probably talk if it amused her, but for the time being I have a hard time seeing the Gods pitting the Amazons against normal people when they can pit them against other Gods, which seems to be what Strife constitutes as entertainment.

Diana hiding this just seems incredibly unlike her. It seems logical I agree - Amanda Waller would not hesitate to cover something like up to suit her own purposes. But Wonder Woman is not Amada Waller.
Have you read the Hekitia by any chance?
    If not:
Diana is approached by a young woman who swears servitude in return for protection, which is an old Greek practice that gives the book its name.
Though she isn't entirely sure why, she accepts. Almost immediately we seek that what is usually just a turn of phrase is quite real, as the Furies start hovering outside Diana's home warning her that they would be waiting in case the vow is broken.
Not long after that another grim stalker appears in the shape of Batman, who is the one the girl is running from, since she had killed three men for the murder of her sister. Wanting to apprehend the girl, Batman tries forcing his way inside only to get thrown off the balcony.

The point is that even after learning of what the girl had done, Diana did not just put her on ice or hand her over to the judgement of others. And this was a total stranger, why would she do less for people she actually knows?
