At its best it was a helpful intro to the Batman mythos.

At its worst it was a series of fan-fic events strung together with the perception of being a "mystery"
"John Stewart. LAME! ...this guy having a ring is like giving the batmobile to a blind old woman with her left leg in a cast."

"Pym biting Blobs head off seems like something that would have happened when i was ten years old and playing with action figures."

"i always assumed that [the blob] had the same powers as his 616 counterpart because, if simply being a huge fat guy was enough to be considered a mutant then there sure are a lot of mutants in 'real life'. "

It gets credit for making Batman and Catwoman a pair. That's probably a move that resonated in TDKR.

I've never felt like re-reading it myself but it earns high marks for reigniting Batman's popularity with comic fans. Sales really took off after Hush and stayed much stronger afterwards.

Yeah, DC really kept the quality up after Hush. I thought the storyline right after it (Broken City) was as great read as well.

    Popularity doesn't equal quality.

Perhaps -- though Shakespeare was popular in his day, so perhaps one doesn't preclude the other.

True, though just because something is popular doesn't insure quality. Twilight being the best example I think.

Do you guys think that DC will release a new edition of Hush to celebrate?

Since when is HUSH a classic?

I doubt it. They just released a black-and-white version last year.

    How does Twilight lack "quality"?

Love Hush and read it form time to time. But the character was badly hurt by the follow up Hush Returns. It was not until Heart of Hush and Streets of Gotham that the character was fully developed.

Hush is a pretty fun story, it's only the last couple issues where it kinda falls apart. What the hell was Huntress doing? Tommy's motivation (and it's left a bit unclear that it was actually him) was really lame. Had the Jason reveal stayed, it'd be a much stronger story. If Tommy Elliot really had been a red herring and really was killed by Joker, then the story would read like Loeb doing a clever subversion the TLH formula.

    Popularity doesn't equal quality.
I love how people say this a million times a day on the internet, and always as if they were the first person to think it.

I really enjoyed Hush, but the ending isn't great. It's just too convoluted; Jason should have been the mastermind. I like what's happened with Hush since (aside from Hush Returns), so I guess that makes up for it!

It's a fun summer blockbuster though, so I can forgive its flaws. It's the only Absolute Edition I own too, purely because of Lee's glorious art.

The "switching places with Clayface" retcon was so clumsy, it really felt like Winick was trying to clean up Loeb's mess! I was glad he did though, Jason's been interesting since his resurrection.
