How is that a bad thing for this role?

'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

I think the difference between criticism of Ledger and Hathaway is that once people saw Heath in photos and the trailers they were won over. Even after all of the promotion so far many still aren't sold on Hathaway playing Catwoman. I'm simply not a fan of her acting ability and look which I feel lends itself more to a broadway show then a movie. Maybe she shouldn't have been in the film at all considering how strong Hardy's performance looks to be. Her casting screams "Topher Grace as Venom" to me which is odd because I never doubt Nolan. I'm a huge fan of his Batman films but the women he's casted have been the weakest part of them.

I think Anne Hathaway is the hottest thing in Hollywood right now based upon my personal preferences for feminine looks.

She is also an extemely talented and versatile actress who has done a lot of great roles.

I have every confidence that she will do the part justice. The interviews I've read indicate she loves the role and is going to extremes to look the part.

The people complaining about Hathaway not being 'hot' enough either haven't looked closely enough at her, have some skewed tastes, or don't get that 'hotness' is not the only thing Catwoman has going for her. They're also likely the types that thought Ledger couldn't possibly play Joker, and though I don't LIKE Ledger's Joker, I at least appreciate the craft that went into it.
Yeah, she's terrible. No argument here.

That's my biggest problem with her. The actors in Nolan's bat films have been great at making you forget their other roles, Heath is Joker, Hardy is Bane etc. Hathaway pops up in the trailer and it's "Oh look, it's Anne playing Selina Kyle". She doesn't get lost in roles the way Bale, Oldman and Ledger do and it stands out because she's overshadowed. Honestly if I had to pick an actress who might fit the part it'd be Eva Green. Maybe too much French in there but I think the part would be great with someone lesser known just like Cillian Murphy was for Scarecrow.

How about we actually watch the movie before judging her performance? I was really uncertain about Heath Ledger and yet his INTERPRETATION of the Joker won me over. Was he the comics Joker...no, but he created a Joker suitable for that Batman setting.

I fully expect Anne Hathaway to do the same thing here. Just remember she is not playing Selina as the comics verse, but as what Nolan needs for his storyline.

If we really want to start a discussion on how Catwoman should look, it starts and ends with Julie Newmar...1966 vintage!

Who thought "Hey, Heath Ledger will put forth a once in a generation dramatic performance"? I think the only good movie he was in before The Dark Knight was Monsters Ball, and he died at the end of the first act.

My friends can all attest to me telling them, "I bet you Heath Ledger's going to blow you away."

Anne Hathaway is a much better actress than the other female leads in my opinion. Katie Holmes and Magie Gylenthal certainly aren't aren't as talented and versatile.

You also have to consider that they needed an actress with a certain look and age. Who else better fits into that mold?

I'm actually kind of glad some people have low expectations for her because I think they will be praising her once they see her performance.

Hathaway just isn't my cup of tea. I don't find her particularly attractive which makes her playing a typically sexy femme fatale awkward. Making it worse is how bad the costume looks to me. A wet suit with razor blade heels, a slicked back mullet like hair style, and a domino mask/night vision goggles. I know it's supposed to be a throw back to the Julie Newmar days, but really Catwoman's current costume in comics is nearly tailor made to be easily adapted to the big screen and seems more sensible for a thief in trying to conceal their identity, but who knows if that's what her role is exactly in this movie. As for her acting, she's a more than capable actress from what I've seen her in (not much), so I'm sure she won't have me cringing during the movie for the most part. I agree with what NewMutant said and really believe Marion Cotillard would have been better suited for the role.

Copy Pasting my argument from 2008 when this was said about Heath Ledger:

You should know, you were right there at the audition giving your input.

(That may be unnecessarily snarky but I was 18, and the point still stands)
...And does Mr. Goddanm Batman says so much as ''Thanks''? OF COURSE not. That'd hardly be GRIM AND GRITTY, would it?

I love Anne Hathaway and I watch most anything she does but when I heard she had been cast as Selina/Catwoman I wasn't the most excited about it.

Until, I saw her in Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal. There is a moment where she is wearing leggings and she starts to stretch... it only lasts a few seconds but at that moment the first thing that came to my mind was; Catwoman.

And I've always loved Catwoman with long hair so I'm happy to see that Nolan is going that route.
