Default Picked up a bunch of TPBs, not sure if I will like them: Preacher, Y:Last Man, ect

I found a bunch of used TPB today in like new shape. They were all $5 per book, so I grabbed Preacher Vol 1-9, and Y-Last Man Vol 1-10, and 100 bullets (just vol 1, but they had more). I am getting back into comics, and my favorite is the Walking Dead, read all 15 TPBs in less then 2 months. Also been reading Saga from Image comics and really like it. So will I like these books? Are they somewhat dated being they are somewhat older? Should I go back and get the rest of 100 bullets?

Just looking for some opinions from the experts here.

    Thanks
    Jason

All are modern books, so they are not dated at all. I've only read Y completely out of those titles and it's one of my favourite books. Preacher is on my list of books to get and I'm ollecting 100 Bullets as they become available in deluxe editions. That said, you already have the books so start reading and see which ones you like, all three are classics!

Y the Last Man is one of my favourote series ever. I actually started a thread here recently looking for any suggestions of anything that might compare in sheer quality and 'hookability'. It was an obsessive read, one than forced me out of my way to the nearest comic book store to pick up the next volume. I've suggested it numerous people all of which have loved it just as much as I do. I can't speak highly enough about it, so I'd certainly say you've done the right thing picking it all up at once! Though if I had done that I would have read it within the week!

Edit: just seen you're reading Saga, which is written by Brian K. Vaughn, who also wrote Y the Last Man. If you like his style you'll love Y. How is Saga? I'll be waiting for the trades on this one, but I seriously can't wait.

Most people have high praise for all of those series, so you should like them. Y especially gets singled out as one of the best comics ever.

If I may answer that one, Saga is incredibly good. It's very different from Y in that it's a wildly imaginative, quite "out there" science fiction/ fantasy epic, it's but so far it's jut as good. The BKV compulsive addictiveness is alive and present in Saga so I would be very surprised if you don't love it.

And MartinNL, Y is wonderful, Preacher is excellent (if you like or at least can get past Ennis' juvenile sense of humour, his interesting fascination with macho Americana and love for gore, "perverse" sex and, depending on your beliefs, blasphemy) and, I've only read the first 3 trades worth of 100 Bullets, but it seems very good too. And much like most of Vertgo's best stuff, they aren't really dated at all.

Thank you for all the replies, sounds like I am going to enjoy reading both series. As far as Saga goes, I LOVE it! My only con is the series needs to be read in TPB format and not floppies month to month.

I trade wait...That's going to be tough for Saga. Might have to start buying that in single issue!

That's a goods bunch of bargains you got there. Preacher and 100 Bullets are excellent.

Y was merely okay for me but a lot of people seem to love it.

If it helps any,it reads brilliantly in single issues. And it has a kickass letter column as well.

Preacher is awesome! Its a very unique book with a premise that really jogs your curiosity without getting to convoluted or to artsy.

I got lucky, a local comic store that I usually never go to happen to have a guy trade in the complete series for Preacher, Y Last Man, and 100 bullets, and all TPBs were never even read (according to the LCS owner). The LCS owner said the guy needed the money to fix his AC. I picked up Preacher and Y last man on the spot, and only the 1st Vol of 100 bullets. I went back to get the rest of 100 bullets but they were all gone.

I read the 1st vol of Preacher and LOVED IT! Going to head to the pool tomorrow and read vol 2, cant wait!

Those books aren't dated at all. Y looks and reads like it could've come out last year, for the most part. And as for Preacher, love them or hate them, Dillon's art and Ennis' writing are basically timeless. Seriously, open an issue of PunisherMAX from last year and look at Preacher and the art looks the same.

Both are fantastic books, however. Two of my favourites of all time.

edit: saw you read vol. 1 of Preacher. Know that vol. 2 is one of the best, if not THE best arcs of the entire series. It's my second favourite next to the final arc (which made me cry like a baby).

If you like neither Y nor Preacher, you probably should just stop reading contemporary American comics :)
