Is their really any reason to set it to the far off future of 2029?
I get why its not 2200, that sounds too sci fi, but jesus, it's not even 20 years in the future.

when the Transformers movie came out, it was set in the year 2005...do you know how "futuristic" that sounded in 1986?

2000 anything back then sounded somewhat futuristic, 2029 doesn't sound that futuristic when it's already 2012.

I guess they don't want it to seem far flung?

While I don't remember the original film giving a specific date I think it did say it was set in the near future, so 2029 still fits as it is still the near future.

No idea of this is coincidence, but 1997 was also the year Escape from New York took place, a movie Cameron did FX work on.

The original didn't. The sequel had a bit with President Quayle, which assuming a Quayle presidency followed a second Bush term, would make it take place between 1996-2004.

Once I heard House(Hugh Laurie) was playing the Villian and head of Omnicopr in this remake I was excited. Hes a great actor just catches crap for the Stuart Litte and 101 Dalmation movies. But House was on of the greatest Television characters ever brought to life. So im excited to see what he does with the role. Is the head of Omnicorp Brittish(not a huge fan, dont know alot about it)? If not I hope Hugh uses his greg Hose voice instead of his usual Brittish accent.

Looking forward to Jackie Earl Haley's character. Interesting that Robocop will have military training as well.

I really like what I see so far, but I'd love some of that hilariously snarky satire from the original to creep in.
