I was never really sold as Dunst as Mary Jane, but she turned in an take on the character that worked for the story they were telling, even if it was a little on the.....meek side.
How quickly some forget that the Raimi films helped kick off the entire superhero film craze. I still love the films, especially SM2. I think Tobey Macguire captured Peter Parker's heart and soul.

And from what I hear, I expect Garfield to do so as well, in a different way.

I didn't really like the Raimi trilogy. The only redeeming quality was JK Simmons as JJJ.
I did like the Raimi trilogy growing up. I really did. Raimi's trilogy is what got me into Spider-Man in the first place. However, my love for the character evolved past Raimi's version and I came to see the character Spider-Man was supposed to be. And I have to say I enjoyed this new movie more because I can appreciate it more.

PS JJJ hasn't been cast yet so we might still have a chance to get JK Simmons back as JJJ. I doubt it, but you never know! Maybe if fan reaction is strong enough to push it through!

I love Raimi's film but the new one is my favorite by far. Raimi's film was great for its time, a necessary stepping stone in the early years of the age of the superhero film, but ASM is a movie that benefits from the growing maturity of the genre. As for the alterations to Spidey's costume, I think they definitely work and I love that, unlike the suit in the Raimi film which looked like it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to put together, you can believe that a teenage kid made this one on his own.

Oh, and I also love how after all the hand-wringing back in the day about how unbelievable it would've been to show Peter developing his own web-fluid, this movie does it in about a single scene and it doesn't impede the movie in the slightest.

I like Spider-man and Amazing Spider-man about the same but I voted for Raimi's Spider-man because people are being way too harsh on it.

    - In Spider-man I got much more of a feeling that Peter, May and Ben where a family. Ben and May's upbringing is what shaped Peter and it affects him throughout the entire movie. In ASM they're both pretty negligable, especially May who is reduced to the woman lives with, and Peter remains estranged and kind of douchey towards them in most of the movie.

    - The romance in ASM is just another by the book love story that's added because all superhero movies, that aren't the Avengers, apparently needs a love story. Whereas in Spider-man the love story is one of driving forces of it all and central to movie itself. Also, the romance between Peter and Gwen goes way too fast to be realistic. They meet and find the other attractive then he sneeks into her work place without an explanation and selfishly causes problems for poor Rodrigo and based on that she instantly thinks that Peter's the perfect guy to invite to dinner with her parents. Not forced at all.

    - As for ASM joking much more. He only does that during the car thief segment.

    - Lizard, while entertaining to look at, wasn't really a good villain.

    - This is a personal preference but I like it more when Peter's accident is just a freak accident and not part of a deep dark secret life his parents lived.

    - And lastly, also personal preference, I liked the web-slinging more in Spider-man.

Again, I like ASM, but I felt that somebody needed to stick up for Spider-man.

Looking forward to Gwen Stacy though.
I was very bothered when I saw it in stills, but in the movie I barely noticed the changes. I think they perhaps purposefully had the more offending areas hidden in shadow, or Spidey was moving too fast for me to really notice. Whatever the reason, it didn't bug me in the film. And I was also someone who hated what the first film did to the Goblin (and I'm a little worried about how he'll look in the new series - I'm not a big fan of the Ultimate look, and I feel that might happen).

Overall, TAS isn't perfect but I think it gets Peter/Spider-Man right, and the Peter/Gwen romance actually works. It's got some odd pacing issues caused, I suspect, by Webb filming a lot of slower scenes that were then cut to make the film feel faster, but that's a relatively minor complaint balanced against good casting and characterisation.

I'm yet to watch the new movie, but from what little clips I saw of it I love how Peter Parker is written in that movie more, he's not too dorky and a softie, this is one thing ASM definitely got better
And as for the actor, I can't say which is better, in what Tobey was given he did pretty well, and more than once he said he did plenty of his own stunts, so I have respect for him as Spider-Man based on that, and I love his voice as Spider-Man, though I can't say the same about the way he talks as Peter Parker. Garfield sounds better as Peter Parker, and you don't feel a change in his voice under the mask, but it sounds muffled as it should, he sounds great.

I still love the Raimi/Maguire trilogy (and Spider-Man 2 is the weakest, cause it's the most poorly paced with lame plots inserted movie. SM3 is much stronger and a very underrated movie tbh), I hope the new movie deserves more love and respect

The thing about the 1st movies for me was that it was great in many ways, as much as people will deny it, 1 AND 2 are next to The Marvel cinematic stuff and Nolan's batsy, they had great villains and were stunning. I enjoyed Spider-man 3 however, The way they made Venom was pathetic, with Brock's voice? Doesn't seem possessed to me,

To be fair, they didn't plan on making him possessed, he seeks vengeance for being an @$$ after Spider-Man pissed him, and his wrongs backfired on him
Brock hates Spider-Man, the ooze hates Spider-Man, these two just had fun in one another companion, and it's how Venom should have been since the start to be taken as a villain, this one I actually love as a villain, unlike the stage act drama master Brock from comics

    Good

Garfield/emma stone If you put their acting, dialogue and chemistry in the first spider-man films, you would see a perfect movie.

    Bad

The score CHEESE. Bring back Danny Elfman.

-The Lizard: worst CGI in 2012. Just imagine how unwatchable this will look in 2022.

I really like both Spider-Man & Amazing Spider-Man (although, Spider-Man 2 is still my favouritest Spidey flick ever and one of the best damn superhero movies ever made). But, if somebody puts a gun to my head and says "CHOOSE SPIDER-MAN or AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, NOW!!" firstly, I'd wonder why the guy was so hostile about it but since he's crazy I'll go along with it and secondly, I'd pick Amazing Spider-Man. If only for the performances and chemistry by Garfield & Stone I think are better than Magurie & Dunst.

I think the best comparison between the two Spider-flicks is that Raimi is obviously influenced by the silver age stuff so Spider-Man is basically a silver-age comic come to life. Amazing Spider-Man has more of a USM influence and I'd even go so far to say it felt like a Marvel Studios picture, wherein stuff is updated & changed but the spirit & essence of the work is there.

Basically, there isn't a BAD Spider-Man movie out there yet, thank Thor. For which I am grateful. Just varying degrees of real good to goddamn awesome. I can live with that.

But Amazing Spider-Man. By a nose. And Spider-Man 2 ahead of 'em all.

No it was Blade that kicked off the super hero movie craze.
