The Ebonrook Files; Testing the Wife and other shows.
Hey guys I hope this is the appropriate forum to post in, I am new here and this is my first post to your forums. I do video blogs, reviews, etc as well as a written and I consider it creative so was hoping here was the place to post. If I was wrong I apologise in advance. I predominately review and discuss comics on my blog. Recently I have started doing videos, which if all goes well I have at least two weekly segments, with a third planned. I will also have some videos that aren't weekly or necessary recurring.
The first show I intend to record every Sunday for release Monday, hopefully I'll manage to maintain that schedule, it's called Testing the Wife. Once a week I write 50 questions, usually about comics, but who knows what the future will hold. This first episode the questions are quite general but future weeks will focus on more specific. For example Episode 2's questions are already written and are about the graphic novel, Grandville.
I ask my wife these questions, who although she takes an interest in them, is not as into it as the rest of us. It wind's up being quite funny.
The second weekly topic is my New Comic Day Overview, which originally was written, but now I am going to attempt to do videos weekly. This segment basically covers quick and not too detailed info on the new comics I get each week. Though I will admit that next week I will probably try to be more detailed than I was in this weeks. The weekly New Comic Day Overview, I will usually attempt to leave out any spoilers, because of how new they are.
I will also be doing the occasional review video, though for a while I may be sticking to written reviews. I did do a Top 5 Batman Stories which I got very camera shy doing it. Turns out that if I script humor I am not very good at it, which means I wound up cutting more of the jokes than I would of liked to. Though hopefully as I get over my stage fright and nerves with time, I will get funnier at it. Also during this first video, I was contending with my families AC so I had to do some sound editing. (If anything it makes it funnier? lol). I also will be doing the occasionally VLog depending on how I feel about it, for example I did one for the Amazing Spider-man in two flavors, without spoilers and with. Both can be found here.
My friend and I are planning a third segment, though we have to work out a schedule for it, the hope is for it to be weekly released on Fridays. It will be a podcast, where we discuss different items in a very unscripted way, or at least with a less strict script. For example we may discuss films and argue a little, or we may discuss comics. For example we both seem to be on different "sides" in Avengers vs X-Men (which I intend to review soon anyway). The only issue is that I have moved to the States and he hasn't so we have to battle through the Time Zones for scheduling recording.
Anyway, enjoy guys and I hope you can give some feedback. I know I'm not great yet (and again I know about the sound quality on Top 5 Batman, stupid AC lol), but I would love some input on how to get over stage fright and perhaps good ways to practice scripted comedy. My friends always think I'm funny but to be honest I'm usually just sarcastic and I find I struggle to "force it" when it's scripted. So any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. :)
Part 1 of Quantum Conundrum is up, it's a longer vid and I discovered after recording that using the built in mic of my laptop is a REALLY BAD idea. So I won't be doing part two until I invest in a new microphone. Enjoy though and let me know if it's any improvement on my older Let's Plays!
Better yet though, Episode 2 of Testing the Wife is up! This week I test my wife Lindsay on Bryan Talbot's Grandville. She has read at least one volume, and I talk about this comic regularly. So we are testing her memory and how much she pays attention to me in this weeks episode of Testing the Wife!
