Did you guys see the sales for June? Dial H went down 30%. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Cuss everything. :(
I'm hoping it is primarily driven by trade sales.
Gaiman's Sandman never really sold much. With Berger editing this book, there is a decent chance that it'll have a Vertigo sales model/expectation, where trade sales can make up for a series that just barely breaks even in singles.

Yeah the Vertigo model really makes a lot of sense for a series written by a famous novelist. Lots of people who would want to read it won't even know it's out until the trades are out. I just hope DC realizes this, and we have no way of knowing what they'll do. Like they're not gonna do a press release saying "Don't worry, it's safe, we're looking for Dial H to do much better in trades!"
I think we've been through this whole song and dance a lot with this book, but now the actual sales are here and are confirming my fears. The comics market is way too easy to predict, in an almost depressing fashion.
Current favorites: Claymore, Birds of Prey, Black God, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Excel Saga
Man, I really like this book. Each issue just gets me more excited for the next.
Even if the numbers are down, I think DC knows that they'd be crazy to stop this one, it isn't like some of the dreck that has been cancelled so far.
It doesn't matter how good it is - it's an extremely unconventional story with offbeat artwork and an aesthetically unappealing lead character. I'm not at all surprised it's not selling gangbusters.

I really like the amount of forward momentum that Dial H has going. So many of DC's new 52 are floundering/being axed, it's good to see one solid title in the line.
Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm not saying it's likely to be cancelled any time soon. I just think it's a hard sell in today's comic market, due to its nature. But I'm not convinced how many extra copies Miéville's name is going to count for in the wider community - I guess we'll see some kind of trend after the first 6 issues or so.
