And I think I agree with you about the original plan for the covers. BUT..! With a small caveat. Weaver and his editors are right in that the last part has some weaknesses.

The first of course being that we're not seeing the new guys head-on, but rather from the back. But the second part, is that there's a big sort of... feeling of emptiness, of wasted space in how they're placed. If they were closer, and more mashed up with the others, possibly arranged similarly, WITHOUT the 180-degree shift, then it would have worked. The threat could have been made less obvious and more mysterious as well, thereby conserving space for the heroes.

I agree on the weaknesses of the concept. Though I think if I were them I would've gone with a cast pic of the new recruits for issue #4 then.

Posted this in another thread but I figured I'd do it here as well. Since we've seen new images with what appears to be a new version of Nightmask, combined with a cover that's a tribute to a New Universe ad, AND the fact that there will be six more team members introduced later, is it possible the remaining six could be new versions of the New Universe characters, "jumping ship" to 616 and the Avengers? We could have Nightmask, Starbrand, members of DP7, Psi-Force, Spitfire, Justice...even Kickers Inc., if Hickman really wanted to polish up a DOA concept.

I don't think that the entire rest of the roster will be New Universe, but you never know.

Manifold is Eden Fesi from Hickman's Secret Warriors.

Captain Universe is a force that empowers people temporarily to cosmic power levels. It once merged with Spider-Man for a time and made him powerful enough to defeat the Hulk (the Gray Hulk).

Captain Universe, kinda like the Phoenix Force in that it possesses different people.

I was just thinking, given the latest images of the team lineup (the roster with the icons) and it being full of powerhouses, maybe Hickman will resurrect the Sentry to add even more firepower

Between Captain Universe AND Hyperion on the team, Sentry pretty much brings nothing to the table. That doesn't even take into account Thor or Captain Marvel.

Now if they brought back the Void, that could be interesting.
