Default Ultimate influences in the Amazing Spider-Man movie(spoilers inside)

I haven't read all of Ultimate Spider-Man, and I haven't read any of the Lizard story in Ultimate team up, but I figured I'd start this thread to discuss things about the movie that seemed to be more Ultimate than 616.

I only have a few, I'm sure you guys will notice a lot more.

-Flash plays basketball.. Peter can dunk

-Peter accidentally breaks a lot of things when first discovering his powers.

-Richard and Mary Parker are scientists, not spies

-Uncle Ben's great responsibility speech seemed similar to the one in Ultimate

-Uncle Ben's death happens after Peter has a temper tantrum and runs out on Ben and May.. Asking rhetorically where his father is

I know there were a few more but I wasn't taking notes.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I definitely consider this a good thing. Bendis did a lot of great stuff with Peter Parker during those early times. Since this movie clearly wanted to go in a different direction compared to the first three, they couldn't have picked better source material. It's not radically different from the traditional Spider-Man mythos, but it has that distinct touch that made Ultimate Spider-Man such an amazing experience during those formative years. Definitely more excited to see the movie now! Although I probably won't be able to for another week at the very least.

-They played his identity pretty fast and loose, which I actually really appreciated; him being unmasked by the police had a very Ultimate/Bendis feel to it
-Nurse-Girlfriend is straight outta USM (with Gwen in the starring role over MJ, of course)
-His teacher at the very end (the black lady) looks dead on to Immomen's when they were doing the baby experiment

There were plenty more, but like you said, it's hard to remember every little detail :). Brilliant movie, really nailed everything that makes Peter special (humor, science, juggling real life, etc).
Marriage Era Spidey bashers are shameful opportunists (Like you REALLY didn't enjoy a single Spidey comic in 20 years)
Conversely, BND haters REALLY need to get over their continuity elitism already

Totally. And don't get me wrong.. I don't think the whole thing was based on Ultimate Spider-Man. They kind of took the story in their own direction, so no matter what Spider-Man you've read, there will be surprises. What's very close to the comics, though, is Peter Parker himself. To me it doesn't matter if the story is totally different, as long as the characters are true to the comics. Well I guess I also care about the origin being done well, which it was, even though they had a new take on that too. Essentially though, this was a very Ultimate Peter.

My personal favorite moment was the alarm clock.

Wasn't the Burglar instance similar? With it being in a grocery store instead of the backstage part.

Yes and no. The burglar wasn't stopped from a grocery store, but he broke into the Parker's household.

There might've been a small reference to DoSM where he throws Gwen outta the window and webs her...

I thought Peter was nothing like he is in the comics, he was kind of a douche and not funny at all.

I agree with Wolverine12 here. This film's Peter is quite unlike the comics. He wasn't that nerdy, socially awkward kid at school and the actor was too much of a pretty boy (he's a good actor though). Douche is too strong a word here, but he was also a tad bit too cocky when he initially became Spidey (and, yeah, he wasn't very funny at all, aside from the "small knives is my weakness" part).

Nonetheless I really liked the film, thought it was awesome. There were definitely a lot of Ultimate inspired elements, but this Peter is definitely not Ultimate Peter nor 616 Peter. Nothing wrong with that though, this is a reboot and I'm glad they're taking it in a new direction.

It lacked...fun IMO and there was no sense of wonder or amazement (pun not intended). It also REALLY needed to decide on which plot it wanted to follow.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree I guess. I guess it comes down to how you read his character in the comic, and I thought even though his exact behaviors weren't the same, his personality was
