    Default AvX Reading Order

Kk...due to the jarring placement of some of these issues in context with the overall narative, I set out this morning to place them in something of a chronolgical order (for my future re-readings). If you all have any fine tuning to offer, it'd be appreciated.

    - Program Guide (not essential, but a nice bookend)
    - AVX #0
    - AVX Infinite #1
    - Wolverine & X-men #9
    - AVX #1
    - Avengers # 25
    - New Avengers #24
    - AVX #2
    - Uncanny X-men #11
    - AVX VS #1
    - Avengers #26 (first half)
    - Secret Avengers #26-28
    - Avengers #26 (second half), 27
    - Avengers Academy #29-31
    - Wolverine & X-men #10
    - X-men Legacy #266, 267
    - AVX #3
    - AVX #4
    - AVX VS #2
    - AVX VS #5
    - Uncanny X-men #12
    - Wolverine & X-men #11
    - AVX #5
    - AVX VS #3
    - Uncanny X-men #13
    - X-men Legacy #268
    - Avengers Academy #32, 33
    - Uncanny X-men #14-17
    - Wolverine & X-men #16
    - AVX #6
    - AVX Infinite #6
    - Wolverine & X-men #12
    - Avengers #29
    - Wolverine & X-men #13, 15
    - Avengers #28
    - New Avengers #29
    - AVX #7
    - AVX VS #4
    - AVX #8
    - New Avengers #25-28
    - X-men Legacy #269,270
    - Wolverine & X-men #14
    - AVX #9
    - AVX #10
    - Avengers #30
    - AVX Infinite #10
    - AVX #11
    - Uncanny X-men #18
    - New Avengers #30
    - AVX #12
    - AVX VS #6
    - Uncanny X-men #19
    - Wolverine & X-men #18
    - AVX Consequences #1-5

    So, yeah. Any thoughts?

    Yes.

Many of the tie-in issues (Wolverine and the X-Men, for example) require sectioning.
For accuracy, one would need to dismantle and issue, and then insert several of said dismantled pages into the primary AvX issues.

The same can be said for X-Men Legacy. Its all quite confusing.

Aye, for sure. The inconsistencies are rampant. Even disecting the issues further, as you suggest, is going to leave you with paradoxes. Wolverine's state aboard the carrier in AVX #3, right before landing in the (ant?)acrtic circle, contradicts pretty much everything in the between issues. Rachel's defection is documented on three occasions under different circumstances.

I was going to be much more explicit in my breakdown until I started upon it and realized it was impossible to align everything. Thus, I ended up with the above list. It's not perfect, but I feel it lines up rather nicely.

The "program guide" was just a pre-cap free issue that came out in March. Calling it an issue is overly generous, I suppose.

I appreciated it it because I hadn't picked up an X-book in years and it quickly outlined who was on which team (I didn't even realize Magik was among the living....). It also offered suggestions as to trades one might want to read if they wanted a fuller understanding of the event. That kind of stuff. There was also a few pages of preview story.

Like I said, it's not essential. I'm just a bit of a completist. It pointed me in the direction of a several decent stories I'd have otherwise overlooked in my Cap-centric Marvel reading. :D

Thanks. I had to go fish it out from a bunch of free comics handed out at the LCS. I forgot this came out so thanks for the reminder.

I was about to create this very same thread as well.

    AvX #0

Wolverine and the X-Men #9 - This is more of a prelude to AvX #1

    AvX #1

New Avengers #24 - Rewinds a bit to before AvX #1 but it works best if read after AvX #1 for proper context

    AvX #2

AvX: VS #1 - Expanded version of Magneto/Iron Man and Thing/Namor fights

Uncanny X-Men #11 - Much like the VS issue, is more of an expansion on the Hulk/Colossonaut fight and works better if read after AvX#2

Secret Avengers #26-28 - Picks up the Secret Avengers space mission plot point introduced in AvX #2 happens before Avengers

Avengers #25-27 - Happens directly after Secret Avengers and Noh-Varr's defects/is ejected from the team

Avengers Academy #29-31 - After AvX#2 Cap & Wolverine offload the kids from Utopia onto the Academy

Wolverine and the X-Men #10 - Happens a little after Cap and Wolverine leave the kids at Academy, Wolverine goes back to the Jean Grey School and leads back into AvX #3

X-Men Legacy #266-267 - After W&tXM #10 although some scenes between Rachel/Iceman's departures & the X-Men somewhat overlap but could be in different times and shows Rogue and the left over X-Men continue to teach. We also see these leftover X-Men fight other Avengers not seen in the main books (Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Falcon, Iron Man robot)

    AvX #3

    AvX #4

    AvX: VS #2 - Expands on Colossonaut/Spider-Man & Gambit/Cap fight

Uncanny X-Men #12 - Expands on Luke/Namor, Thing/Namor fights, She-Hulk tags along after events of Academy

Wolverine and the X-Men #11 - Expansion on Hulk vs Iceman fight and other parts of the world fight sequences

    AvX #5

    AvX: VS #3 - Expands on Thing/Colossonaut & Magik/Black Widow fight

Uncanny X-Men #13 - Generation Hope kids back from the Academy & runs down the events seen in AvX #5

    AvX #6

    Avengers Academy #32

    Wolverine and the X-Men #12

    New Avengers #25-27

    Uncanny X-Men #14

    X-Men Legacy #268-269

I'm a little fuzzy on the timeline of the events of the tie-ins from AvX #6 onward because Hank Pym and Quicksilver are capture in WaTXM #12 so I think the events of Avengers Academy precede WaTXM but we'll see. The New Avengers issues are served well by being slotted here because A) AvX #6 is prominently introducing the Iron Fist angle and B) while the Fongji story is developed over a past time period it ends in a post AvX#6 timeline. Uncanny X-Men can be read anytime after AvX #6 but the next couple of issues will make it clearer as to where it'll all slot in.

I think he just wanted there to be a reason for the Avengers to train Hope, because without all the Fungi nonsense there wasn't a need. But it's rather stupid, anyway, if they just train her in a few pages or behind the scenes.

Yes, it happens after AvX 7. Chalk it up to poor scheduling.

The Fongji scenes are to demonstrate that the Iron Fist power can overcome and tame the Phoenix. That's the whole justification for them going to K'un-Lun instead of somewhere else.

I dont think it was poor Scheduling.I think they ment for that to happen and the recap for New Avengers 28 will say this Event Happends after AVX 7

The X-books are having similar problems -- there are Avengers turning up in AvX 7 who were captured in books that came out a week or two ago.

I fully expect New Avengers 28 to show Avengers in prison who are still at large in the main book.

Thanks, Will.S. I realigned some of my placements in the initial post as per your well reasoned list.

I think we'll have to see what happens with Uncanny before figuring out where it belongs. The P5 dialogue in issue 15 suggests the arc lies after AVX #7, imho. :/

Default A vs X reading order

Does anyone have this? I've failed miserably in trying to find anything concrete *gnashes teeth in an over-dramatic way so common amongst bipolar Vlatavians*
