I don't disagree that the mold should be broken. But there's still some things that are essentially rules of character deaths, the biggest being closure and respect. I don't mind that their stories got cut short. Sure, I would have liked to see more from all these characters, but I can accept it. The problem is that they were killed off quickly and without any sort of emotional beat. Peter's death was told over six issues and had mentions in AvNU and Fallout. His story may have ended prematurely, but there was plenty of focus on the gravity of his death.

Now, obviously Spider-man is a bigger character in the UU, so he's going to get more focus. But Daredevil was found dead and that's it. The Academy of Tomorrow and several of the Brotherhood were merely mentioned after their death. Dr. Strange was gratuitously killed with no purpose or focus. Even some of the X-Men were given maybe a panel of focus after being found dead.

The story was careless, sloppy, and overstuffed with big moments. That's the problem with the story. It just bounced from one death to another like they weren't important.
I like Ultimate Comics. - Read them with us!

I also buy: Captain America, Avengers, FF, New Avengers, X-Factor, among others

You know, I don't think it's fair for people who like Ultimatum to accuse those who don't of only hating it because their favorites died.

The bad writing was far more annoying than the deaths. In fact, they made the deaths worse.

"Sad and graphic" are great descriptions of this mini. Sloppy would be the perfect third description.

This. Just because something is like real life doesn't mean it's actually good.

This book is really just Ultimates 4, yet with a focus on X-Men characters. It's pretty much like COIE or OMD in that it serves no purpose other than to revamp the Ultimate Universe. I'll need to read UXM and UFF and catch up on USM to see if the claim that the Ultimate Universe was getting stale is true, although I've heard that UXM and UFF got pretty bad near the end of their runs.

Ultimatum was dumb and poorly written. Even if you wanted to kill off all those characters, there was a better way to do it.

    Ultimatum is a polarizing event.

I am down on it. But, that's not to say I don't see the idea, and I can respect those who enjoy it. Liking Ultimatum and Jeph Loeb are very unpopular ideas. I love Jeph Loeb, and even though I didn't care for Ultimatum, it wasn't all Loeb's fault.

I've said before that Ultimatum was going to happen, and Loeb was just the weapon Marvel picked. I believe that there was very specific instruction. "Hey Jeph, we want to make sure it's never the same after this."

Mission accomplished. For me, it was the beggining of the end in the UU. I just haven't cared for the stories or characters. Ultimate X (also a Loeb book) was the last good thing in the UU.

Ultimatum was done to change the course of the UU. Again, it did what it set out to do. It did it in horribly destructive ways that were shocking, and over the top for most main stream comics. Destruction is a form of creation. As it turns out I haven't been fond of the new direction and have slowly been severing my ties.

But if you like it, keep going! More comic fans the better I say. It takes all kinds and it would be pretty sad if we all only like the same thing.

I still hear people talk about that on this board not to mention the Spidey board.

Follow up question, how long until we quit talking about it? It certainly won't be anytime soon since they are still referencing it regularly in the actual comics. I mean it's been 3 years and still it hangs over the UU like the Sword of Damocles.
    1) Find a bad guy
    2) Be Wolverine
Ultimate Wolverine is coming back, sort of!

    Troll account?

Ultimatum is one of the most hated modern comic storylines out there and for good reason. It was a huge gamble on Marvel's part, to revamp the Ultimate Universe (which was starting to get stale but was still successful) in a very dramatic and irrevocable way. They killed off a huge amount of their characters, changed the face of the universe and left the door open for reconstruction. But it totally bombed and the gamble didn't pay off. It wasn't until they tried to do it a second time that they were successful.
Yeah DOSM did work out, but honestly i could have done with Peter's death happening though.

As long as their are Ultimate comics, there will be Ultimatum rumblings. There has never been an event quite like Ultimatum in main stream comics. Particularly with lasting effects.

Ultimatum will eventually be praised as the event that saved Ultimate comics or be harshly criticized, much the same way it's been since it started.

Like I've said before Loeb gets undue hate for Ultimatum. Ultimatum was going to happen. The state of the UU is totally different, by design. If not Loeb, someone else would have decimated the UU.
