I wonder when we'll know for sure. Considering Daniel has said one of the projects he's doing would be revealed this week and Snyder said that the villain of the next arc in Batman is going to be revealed tomorrow, I think there's a decent chance we'll find out what the new Tec team is this week. Though maybe it'll be at Comic-Con.

Man, I'd be all about a John Layman run on Detective....

As much as it gets pilloried online (and as much as it's not to my taste), Daniel's Detective run has been a pretty big hit for DC. I'd expect them to choose a new team that will tell stories in a similar style.

Didn't Brubaker just opt out of renewing his exclusive with Marvel? I know he's gone on record to say he's looking to do more creator-owned stuff, but hey ... it's been a decade since we've had some Bru-Bats and he actually used to take the time to write actual "detective" stories. That's the wildest, least founded speculative leap in logic I'm willing to throw into the conversation. Because I not-so-secretly wish Detective was just a new excuse for more GCPD-based stories. It's called "Detective". Have it star Gordon and his crew and have Batman be relegated to a "Series Regular Supporting Role".

I'm as curious as anybody. It could be anybody. It could be one of DC's up-and-comers. Lemire's a workhorse, could he, would he swing three books (he's probably got a back-log of pitches and half-written stuff to pull from). Could it be Winick? He always at least tells solid tales, rarely revolutionary or "landmark", but in a typical level of quality that better serves DC's longest running comic. What about China Mieville, who is no doubt sort of the most recent "breakaway success story"? With the critical raves for Dial H, more work for him wouldn't surprise anyone.

I'll have to browse around the talent roster on the New 52 thus far and think pretty hard about it. I'm sure an announcement will be forthcoming, possibly even in the next few weeks. I think I'll just use this moment to wishlist really quick a number one choice ... I hope it's Bryan Q. Miller.

No, Detective Comics as a brand has been a big hit for DC.

Just read Broken City. Did not care for Azzarello's Batman. All the innuendos were getting to be a little too much. Batman shouldn't be talking like some sex crazed deviant. I would not like to see him on 'Tec.

I would not be surprised at all if Higgins gets it. He's prob got Snyder putting in good words for him, and I think Nightwing is selling fairly well overall. Not saying he's the right or wrong man for the job, but I could see it.

That's unfair. It's not right to blame the creators when sales go down and then, when sales do well, say, "Eh, people are just buying it for the title."

Have you actually read Detective Comics? Daniel's writing is not doing anyone any favours.

What if, for a 4 issue special story line, and only for 4 issues, they brought back.... Frank Miller and paired with David Aja to do a New 52 version of YEAR ONE. It wouldn't be nearly as good as the original, but it would be interesting, funny, and really overrated. plus David Aja would be an awesome homage to David Mazzuchelli. Unless they just got Mazzuchelli. That would be even more awesome.

As long as Miller doesnt pull an "All-Star" or a "Strikes Again"

Would it be too much to hope for maybe a female writer handling Tec. Not sure who I would pick as of right now, but it might be interesting to have a lady take on the main batbook. I know there have been women writing batman, and it might be interesting to see how they handle it, and the fans for that matter. I actually want to see stories where there is more detective work.

I think his ideas are good, and his art is good but i agree, his writing is really weak
specially compared with all the rest of Batman writers, Hurwitz, Snyder, Morrison and Tomasi
all of them are writers, Daniels is an artist

I cannot think of anything more pointless than re-enact Year One

honestly, how many good female writers are in comics right now?
and lets not even Count Gail Simone into category anymore

That is unfair. But evidently only if some posters like the book, is it then ok to give the creative team its due. Though u can bet u ass those same people would be all over the creative team and use it against them if the title did poorly.

I don't even like Daniel's 'Tec myself, but regardless he has shown that he can support a big name Bat book in the market today. His Detective Comics has done very well for itself. The market does not seem to have the same problems with Daniel's Bat books as people around here seem to.
