Don Rosa Classics: Deluxe Edition: The Complete Pertwillaby Papers & Captain Kentucky
Some of you might remember Eisner Award winner Don Rosa's classic comic strips, the "Pertwillaby Papers" and "Captain Kentucky". These rarely reprinted strips were originally published in the newspaper of Don's college and in fanzines like the Rocket's Blast Comicollector. Now, for the first time ever, a complete edition of all his Pertwillaby and CK work is in production (previous editions never included all material that is available). If you're interested, have a look at our Indiegogo page where you can not only find all the relevant information on this project, but also preorder your copies right now. The books will be available around September/October, free shipping to anywhere is included.
I'm Don's German Disney comics editor, and this is an "on the side" fan project. I'll make sure that the books will be of the highest possible quality, and there'll be lots of bonus features, like old fanzine and newspaper articles, interviews, fandrawings, covers etc., and there'll also be an all new introduction by Don himself. I'm very excited for this, and I hope the Don Rosa fans amongst you will be, too. Or, if you're not a Rosa fan yourself, spread the word if you know some!
Our campaign goal of $10,000 was reached today! Thanks a lot to everyone who preordered! Please continue to spread the word, if we can reach about $15,000 or $16,000, we might even be able to produce the books at a bigger size than A4! Preorders via the Indiegogo campaign are open till August 1!
Ok, guys, last 24 hours to preorder at http://www.indiegogo.com/donrosa are running! Thanks to your continuing support, we'll do the PP book at a larger size than originally planned, and we'll also throw in free digital copies for everyone who ordered a package that includes the books.
Hey everyone! We've got a new exciting project for you that will mark the final chapter in the "Don Rosa Classics" series. Here's the info mail that went out to all buyers of the first two Classics two days ago:
Dear Don Rosa fans and friends,
I'm very happy to let you know that both DR Classics books are now being printed and will be shipped, just like planned, in October. Both Don and I are very proud of the result and we hope you are going to enjoy the classics. (I can't wait to get the first copies myself!)
Thank you so much again for having made this possible!
But ... we've got one more thing for you! (No, no iPhone 5.)
Today it is my great pleasure to announce the third and last book in the "Don Rosa Classics" series: "The Early (So-Called) Art of Don Rosa"
This book was planned even before we thought of PP and CK, but now we're finally getting around to doing it. This is going to be a must read for any Don Rosa fan (even for those who didn't buy the first two Classics because of the old Norwegian editions). We'll include ALL of Don's fanzine illustrations from "Rocket's Blast Comicollector" etc., all of which have NEVER been reprinted before in a collected format! You'll see a variety of comics from Don's childhood and youth, cartoons he did for his school and college papers, ads, covers, newsletter mastheads and MUCH more. This book will be about 300 pages (probably even more), a lot of them in color (we'll do ALL illustrations in color that Don originally did in color and still has a color copy of). And of course, this comes directly from Don's own archive, so all art will look absolutely stunning! When I first saw the material that is now going to be in this book, even I was excited (and I've known Don long enough to not get excited sooo easily), so I'm sure you might want to check this out, too!
We've once again started an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, and all contributions will be directly used for this book (it is somewhat more expensive to produce than the last ones since it has more color pages and more pages in general). And again, there are some exclusive limited goodies as well (e.g. postcards, a limited CK print etc.). For those of you missed out on one of the items from the last campaign, we're offering them again here (while stocks last) and they'll be shipped as soon as they arrive in October. The new artbook will be ready in early 2013, probably February (we haven't started working on it yet, so it takes some time). It will be the same size as PP and have the same cover design style, so it will be a perfect conclusion to this series. Samples of the contents are available on the "gallery" part of the campaign page and will be updated regularly.
Oh, and there are even two packages that include an ebook of the FULL Information Centers!! Read all of Don's old question and answer columns, all of which have NEVER been reprinted!
Shipping is, once again, included to all destinations! And this time, all contributions are even TWICE as valuable. Why is that?
This campaign is part of a competition run by Indiegogo and the German branch of Google for Entrepreneurs (that's why the currency is EUR this time, I couldn't change that). And every campaign that reaches its goal and gains a high enough "GoGo Factor" will get it's goal matched by Google (until they've given out all of their 150,000 EUR award money). Which means: If we reach the 10,000 goal, we'll get another 10,000 by Google!!!
In the preparation of the DR Classics, I've started a small startup comic book publishing company, and this award money would be *incredible* helpful for future projects (to cover license and printing costs etc.). So if you like what I'm doing with the Rosa Classics, PLEASE preorder the new book and spread the word with the link given above. ALL tweets and Facebook shares done on the campaign page help us get a higher "GoGo Factor", and if this campaign is just half as successful as the one for the first two books, I'm sure we'll rock this competition! Together we can make this happen! :)
