They Who Wield Power were a trio from El Dorado, the subterranean Inca kingdom first seem in The Avengers #30-31. Two were Lann (the former Keeper of the Flame) and Prince Rey. The third turned out to be a disguised Tyrannus, who eventually killed the other two and became some sort of magma giant. What their original scheme was I no longer recall. It was ingenious, no doubt.

Not sure they all qualify as CLASSIC but Venom, Carnage, and the Punisher are all terrible. I absolutely loathe all 3, and find it utterly staggering that at least 2 of them became so popular as to virtually be classed as heroes.

I've never been too fond of the Riddler. I mean doesn't he have better things to do than put question marks and riddles everywhere? The only Riddler I liked was Jim Carrys Riddler in Batman Forever I think it was... And Arcade really annoys me! if you've played Marvel Ultimate Alliance OMG his voice is soomannoying. It's not even funny. Speaking of Annoying voices and unlikable characters there is M.O.D.O.K God his voice is annoying he's a short tempered...Nvm...can't say it but you guys probably already know.

I don't remember Darkseid ever really being a guy that does anything other than walk around with his hands folded behind him. I would classify him as lame only because he doesn't mix it up with the big boys on a regular basis. That's why Thanos is superior to him ( although created as a copy by Starlin)because he can beat the top Marvel guys in a physical confrontation , and has done so, but chooses to outsmart them instead.

The Riddler I can appreciate, as Batman's greatest Golden Age villains are avatars of the various symptoms of mental illnesses and disorders, at least in my personal framing. The Riddler is Obsession/Compulsion, the Joker is Mania, Two-Face is Depression (not MPD or bipolar, at least going by his original appearances), The Penguin is Grandiose Delusion. Catwoman breaks the mold, but she was actually a pretty mundane villain before the 60's.

Steve Gerber eventually became a favorite writer for me but his early creation Angar The Screamer for Daredevil just annoyed me

Have you ever read Alias? His mind controlling of Jessica Jones in that book totally changed my opinion of Purple Man. Nowadays, even when I read his early Daredevil appearances, I have all new respect for him as a result of Alias.

I know he pretty much was one of the starters of the generic animal-enemy, but that's the only way I can picture him.

I don't mind the Lizard at all, but I do see your point. Every lizard story is pretty much the same, isn't it? Spidey’s facing off against the Lizard in the latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man, and guess what? Yep, he and Spidey are fighting in a sewer.

What's wrong with Venom and Punisher being antiheroes?

Punisher being a serial killer might have something to do with it.

Maybe, but the stories are great. And the latest Venom series is superb.

I love the Absorbing Man. He's one of those fantastic old school villains. The thing I love about him is that he has the potential to do just about anything, but he thinks so small that he normally just robs banks.

Great to see lots of Absorbing Man love among my fellow Classics Form colleagues. And I'm delighted to see you approve of a good Circus of Crime yarn.
When he first appeared way back in the era of Timely Captain America he wore a swastika on his circus top hat, and, in keeping with the times, was evidently some sort of Nazi agent. In his Silver Age incarnation he was recast in the mold of con-man and petty criminal with grand designs, more often than not adding somewhat comedic elements.

I've mentioned around these parts before that I'd love to see a great writer craft a piece on the Ringmaster's back story, in which the Ringmasters Nazi past was joined in continuity to his latter day version.
