Don't mind it, some have had the absolute same reaction to the Batgirl book in "wanting to like it" but having old expectations of continuation of previous interpretations and not simply being open to the slightly different/updated changes. I'm sure some will have the exact same broken record of complaints that Earth 2 isn't like the "old" JSA issue after issue and never stopping with the complaints until nearly a year later. If one doesn't like a comic it's simply far better to concentrate on the one's one does like, IMO.
    Pull list:
Adventure Time, Batgirl, Batman & Robin, BOP, Earth 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, He-Man, Katana, Nightwing, Shadowman, Swamp Thing, The Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man, Worlds' Finest

So... gay lover get's killed, Alan Scott get's Two-faced before receiving the Earth's energy (shades of Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing), and Superman was a sun-god.

... I'm not really getting drawn in here, Robinson.

It's been stated already that the Earth 2 heroes are more if not magic, mystical in nature and origin than their main DCU Earth counterparts.

Or you could stay away from comics for twenty years until the thing you didn't like went away.

I suspect it might too but with decompression we've got a long wait ahead of us.

Well it was pretty obvious from the start they were intent on stripping out everything I liked about the JSA.

    Apparently DC didn't either.

Using a trope is not a cliche or a bad thing. Using it in a lazy or predicable way is. I'm not against character deaths. I'm against them being used in a lazy or cheap way.
What constitutes a not lazy, not cheap, and not predictable method in killing off a character to aid in your main protagonist's growth? Its pretty straightfoward. Is this any more cheap or lazy than say, Obi-Wan Kenobi being killed to aid the growth of Luke Skywalker? Not really. Its an effective, yet pretty simple trope to apply. You're needlessly complicating it just so you can say you have no problem with the trope while at the same time ripping on its use here.

That dialogue was terrible - you'd think that a conversation between a guy and a pillar of magical green fire would be a little more lively and less cliched and awkward.

And if you disapprove of relentless cynicism in the face of tired out shock tropes (let's kill a little girl/boyfriend/fiance!), what is the appropriate reaction? I'm kinda tied between rolling my eyes and stifling a yawn.
I don't disapprove of relentless cynicism when it's aimed at the right person/persons. To lump everything as an editorial mandate (DC editors basically telling writers what to do) you take away credit or blame from specific writers and editors. Robinson has stated many times that these are his decisions. The only editorial mandate is to make a good story and use only characters available to Earth 2. He's given a lot of rope unlike George Perez and the "editors" of Superman. It's too easy to blame DC as a faceless monolith but it has moving parts.

I think it was way better than the dialog between Jay and a Roman God that just go over and over and over the same point of going to the hospital

I agree, some of the worst stories made by Robinson has been because of Editorial mandates, see C4J and NK
However i think is pretty lazy to resort on the refrigerated gay guy
Sams only purpose is just to out Alan as being Gay and nothing else, he was dead from the first panel

I'm betting that Alan's new love interest will be Dr. Mid-Nite. (The Golden Age original Dr. always tripped my "gaydar" anyway.)
Everything I state is JUST MY OPINION. Take what you like and leave the rest.

No, his purpose is to give Alan a reason to resent his very source of power and play for that dynamic for however long Robinson wishes to. Yes he obviously served also to establish one of the protagonists as a gay man, but that's not going to be the only nor main effect of the character's brief presence.

Sure, for Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman. But it's freakin' Superman. Alien baby fell to earth is his schtik. Sun God sounds more like Wildstorm's Apollo.

I won't accept it until I see the mangled corpse.

I call it, he received the same offer from the "other force" that caused the train crash.
