Comics as an investment are almost never a good idea. And that's an insane price to pay for a book you simply want to read.

    He has a point.

If you're doing this merely to re-sell the comic on Ebay down the road for more, you may take a loss.

However, if you're a collector and like to add originals to your collection, it isn't a bad investment. For example, I'm a TWD collector with a completist attitude, so eventually I imagine I will shell out for an original copy of #1. Budgets just a lil tight atm..

I just sold all mine. I'm fine with the compendiums, which are awesome, and I don't think the prices on these later issues will last. I think #1 will always be something I can't afford, but number eight? I say five bucks. If not today then some time after the show ends.

Good point, dupont. What goes up must come down. Back in the day people were picking up Superman #75 like they were gold. I know a guy who bought five copies at $20 each.

Now they're cover price, even ones still sealed in the bag the book shipped in.

Compendiums are nice but they're a bit of a bother to read while on the shitter.

Single issues and trades are just better for that.

Back issue value will probably dip before the show ends, at least hopefully because AMC will stick by the TWD even if the 6-7 million fanbase drops to 3. They stick by Mad Men and it only pulls about 3-4 and that show I believe has more money sunk into it, which is bs in my opinion since I think TWD should be the show that gets all the mad loot.

A single issue takes me about 2-4 minutes to read, so thats just the right amount of time. However, if I eat at Taco Bell.. then well.. its best for me to bring a trade in with me because I'll be there for awhile.

F'in Taco Bell... I really need to quit eating there but their double decker tacos are soo damn good.

    But ok.. bowel movements aside..

When it comes to TWD back issues bumping up price wise, I'm biased because I want it to stay like it is right now for as long as possible.

I find it refreshing because TWD is a horror comic and it's nice to see a horror comic doing better than most of the superhero comics out there.

Honestly, you can probably find a good deal on eBay. I just checked the "completed listings" and you might be able get it for $20 or less. Some have sold for around $100.

I'm fine with my hardcover editions.

All right, thanks guys. It was gonna be a bday present just as something to add to the 30 comic "pure collection no reading" portion of my 880 comics. I opted for Spiderman 36 instead. It felt like more of a personal comic and I paid 25 bucks which is about average and I am okay with that.

I don't know that this is true of a book like Walking Dead though. The book was a low print when it first came out. The amount of issues is fairly limited. The price guide will continue to go up.

I'd agree that when the demand drops with the show ending it will likely drop in value, but then I would imagine it will slowly go back up. You'd have to hold it for a while of course.

And there are always those crazy stories about over paying and the bottom dropping out in a few years. Back in the 90s people were buying up comics thinking they'd be very valuable in the near future. I worked for my LCS helping him organize back issues for selling. He had an entire long box filled of Legends of the Dark Knight number 1 or something like that. My LCS owner said he bought them for 10 cents an issue of someone who clearly thought they'd be valuable... I don't think Walking Dead is in the same category though because it was low print early on.

I found a deal on ebay for like 13 issues for around 300, includes 17,21,22,23,31,34,35,36,37,38, 40,41 is this a good deal or pretty much priced per book?
