So, being a new comic book fan I have spent quite of bit of money recently browsing different titles and deciding which ones I like. I thought I might post a thread about it, and maybe someone else out there has a similar story to tell so I won't feel so bad.
Everything got started when I found out about DC's New 52. I've been wanting to get into comics for a while, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to me. I got really, really excited after checking out Youtube videos and online reviews of the various New 52 titles, and decided to order the following vol. 1s: Green Lantern, Detective Comics, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Batman, Aquaman, Action Comics, Flash, and Superman. Thus far I have read Green Lantern, which I really liked and will continue to read, Batman, which I loved and will also continue to read, Wonder Woman, which I did not like so much, and Detective Comics, which I also did not like. I will be reading Justice League soon, and the other titles will not reach me until later in the year.
I also wanted to try out some Marvel titles, but this was a little trickier. I did quite a bit of research and eventually decided on the following vol. 1s: Incredible Hulk by Jason Aaron, Captain America by Ed Brubaker, Thor by J. Michael Straczynski, Invincible Iron Man by Matt Fraction, Astonishing X-Men, New Avengers, and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Thus far with these books I have read Thor, which surprised me at how much I enjoyed it so I went ahead and ordered vols. 2 and 3, Incredible Hulk, which I also enjoyed thoroughly and will probably continue reading, and Captain America, which surprised me at how much I didn't like it. I won't be continuing in that Cap series. I have high hopes for both Astonishing X-Men and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, although I am hesitant to read a book where someone other than Peter Parker is Spidey. I've heard a lot of good things about it, though.
So, as the thread title says, I have just spent a whole lot of money getting into comics, and I gotta slack off now cuz if my wife knew exaclty how much I just spent she would probably murder me. Its been fun, though, and I look forward to faithfully reading the titles that I have found that I enjoy. Maybe I can sell the other books back to my local comic shop and get a little bit of the money back that I've spent lately...
