Yeah, I agree. By having them transformed instead of killed, Azz was pretty much signalling us not to expect them to be gone forever. But Diana doesn't know that, so the emotional impact on her is real.

And after all, if they never come back, we'll miss out on another emotionally impactful moment--Diana confronting Hippolyta about her sisters and all those dead sailors, and hearing their side. And we'd miss out on the chance of seeing the Amazons go through the throes of reform. So, I not only "concede" but actually hope that they're coming back.

Remember--many have argued that this is not a hard reboot--Diana has had many instances then of thinking someone has died and come back to life, as well as Paradise Island / Themyscria gone but come back. She should be used to this by now--as long as this is not the hard reboot that I think this is.

Actually, Diana has died and come back herself (if this is a soft reboot)

At this point, to me, this actually doesn't seem to be such a soft reboot. I suppose that when Azz said that it was a soft reboot, he just meant that we're not following her from day one, as with Perez, so there's room for some of the old stuff to have happened. And maybe he exaggerated a little. :)

Maybe there will be bits of old continuity that show up again--but personally, I'm assuming that if some old plot point hasn't been referred to since September, it probably hasn't happened in this continuity (until and unless we find out otherwise). And, for me, that's good, because it means that we get to see her experience some situations for the first time (again).

Like I said many times, I prefer to think that nothing of the old continuity happened until they say so.

We'll probably get some clarification on things with the #0 issue in September, as while it won't surely give her complete history, what it does reveal will probably be enough to concretely rule out a lot of post-Crisis stuff. Which in Wonder Woman's case I'm gathering is probably most everything.

If Diana does ascend to the throne of Olympus in issue 12 [or whichever one shows her sitting on it] I imagine the first thing she would do would do would be reverse Hera's curse.

Graves attack may only be taping into the emotions Diana felt when she saw what had happened to her mother. It might not need to be a permanent condition [as with Clark's father] but rather ampilfying that sense of loss.

It may also be a loophole for Diana to escape the psychic shackles.

On a side note - its interesting to see that the uneconomical use of space in issues is not limited to the WW title. The big splash page with Batman shouting "Take him" seemed completely superfluous to me. At least with the Aquaman panel one could argue that it was meant to convey the power being displayed, but in the case of the page with the JLA attacking it just seemd like a way to do less work telling the story.

Irene Adler: “I would have you right here on this desk until you begged for mercy twice.”
Sherlock: “I’ve never begged for mercy in my life.”
    Irene: “Twice.”

This is exactly why I emphasized the "could" on my first post.

Yes. Clever of you to anticipate my logic and agree before-hand with what you deduced I would say.

Sounds like an interesting issue, but the cover turned me off, so I'm not picking it up.

As for Johns world building regarding Diana...eh what? You have one Cheeta mention, some old indian woman we know nothing about and Steve Trevor pretending to be Nick Fury...thats the extent I can see Johns has added to it. Etta doesn't have any connection to WW any more, as far as I can tell the two haven't even met, so what world are you talking about?
And why are you telling me this? I didn't demand for her past story or her world at all. I'm just telling Dr. Hurt that Azzarello made it clear from the start that he is not here for her past story or building her up from the start. I don't think it's fair to criticise how Johns handle her past more than Azzarello, when we know from the start that Azz is not going touch that area.

The problem for you is that Azzarello is handling her past.

No he isn't. He is telling a story forward which happen to be her past secret. All he has changed is giving her father, the Amazons, and her living in London. Any writer can fill in the void like Johns is doing.

And for the issue #0, that doesn't sum up all her 5 years time as Wonder Woman at all.

Johns is handling her past too if you consider that we've seen a little bit of how she came to man's world and everything about her and Trevor in these 5 years she's been here. So Johns is handling her more... superheroic or classic aspect of her past if you will.

Yeah, but it's different. I can live for 25 years and learned tomorrow that my father isn't my biological father. That is not changing my past. My past remain the same, I just learned about it.

She just learned about her father and her sisters. The only thing Azz did that I consider as changing her past is moving her to London. Beside that, the character is moving forward and learning something new. (Though, with this new origin non of her older stories would fit right in her 5 years void)
