I tried issue one a little while back and did not enjoy it. I thought things were a bit of a mess and struggled to engage with the plot or the characters. I essentially wrote it off, but all I have heard the past month is how Saga is the (or one of the) best comics of the year, and possibly one of the best in several years. Is the first issue a bad judge of the series? All introduction with no room left to get into the juicy bits, perhaps? Alternatively, if I did not like the first issue, is that a good indication I may not like any more?

I wasn't thrilled with #1 either. Give #2 a look. If you like it then you'll love the whole series.

I didn't like it until several issues in. I'm not saying you'll like it though. I think its good but very over hyped.

I started with the first trade and that helped. If I just had issue one, I probably would have read it, thought it was cool, but forgotten about it. Honestly, for completely new books, I think waiting for the first trade is always a good idea. In most cases, one issue isn't going to tell you enough, especially in a universe like Saga's.

The story flows much better in the trade as opposed to single issues. If this were being made into a movie,I was thinking that Rosario Dawson would make a great Alanna, and Jason Statham would be perfect for The Will.Marko could be played by Logan Marshall.

Yeah it does read better in trade, or at least collectively.

I've typically not been that gung-ho for BKV - I think Y The Last Man is overrated. But this book is almost perfect for me.

    Dude, different strokes.

Now I think Saga is perfect myself, but I can empathize with people who feel otherwise, because that's how I feel about Invincible or Walking Dead.

i suppose. since i returned to reading comics for the first time since 1985, i just dont understand how anyone would willingly buy the shit that the Big Bloated Two put out on a weekly basis

Anything getting such good pub is asking to be torn down. People have such high expectations that when it is good, they say it is disappointing because they weren't 'blown away.' Saga is the best thing going right now IMO.

Also, prudes can't handle seeing balls or doggie-style sex once in a while. Even if it is realism or true to the story, they say, 'Just shock value.' FYI - Nakedness and sex happen IRL, not just in comics. Ironic in this space fantasy/opera. Actually, nakedness and sex happen a lot more than violence, which no one ever complains about.

Hi everyone! Count me in as a huge fan of this series. I absolutely love it. It is creepy, funny, sexy and twisted. I love all the character designs and the stories have a great flow. Robot IV reading Alana's romance novel on the can... love it! This is so my obsession right now. Can't wait for the next issue.

Some of it is gratuitous though, especially that big genital monster.

But it's pretty tame stuff compared to Incal.

I read the first issue and didn't think it was anyhting special. I kept hearing great things so I read the trade and it just felt like everything came together. I am loving it now and can't wait for it every month.
