not interested in any of those new ones. they are really going all out on this vibe push.

I've been really, really disapointed in how slow these New 52 figures have been released. I haven't bought any of them yet, because they weren't the ones I wanted.
I did want Katana, so I might get that 2-pack, and I wanted MM, so I'm happy to see them, but why only JL and JLA figures?
I would love to buy New 52 versions of Etrigan, Frankenstein, Red Hood, Black Lightning, Apollo, and Midnighter, to name a few.

Would love a Black Lightning figure! Also Red Hood would be nice.
So I'm thinking about starting to collect myself. Any tips on things I should be wary of? Don't spend too much, etc... Like is it really a deadly sin to open packaging? Stuff like that. I would really love a massive collection to build up with my comics, but I don't know where to start.
It's only a deadly sin to open the packaging because it will decrease their value, so if you plan on selling them later or keeping them in mint condition its best to keep the figures in the original packaging.
As far as where to start what characters do you like or figures are you interested in?
The New 52 is coming out with a bunch of new figures and I think the Justice League ones are very good. But be warned if you buy the combo pack with all seven figures it does not include Cyborg's white noise blaster or Wonder Woman's sword, also Superman's face has a different expression.
I'd say just do your homework before you make your purchases. It's fairly straight forward. There's no secret art to collecting

Does anyone else think that the sculpt on Flash's face looks a little goofy?

it all depends on what you are looking for. is $200 a lot to spend on a statue? if the answer is yes, go with the figures.
i don't have any of the statues, but i really like the recent superman vs batman from dark knight returns. i'm not going to spend $300 on it when i already spend so much on comics and hardcovers.

Thanks, yeah I don't have tons of money to throw around now, but I'd definitely prefer the statues eventually. I don't have too much room for display right now, but I can't think of anything I'd enjoy more than an awesome Bat statue in my residence.
Figures don't sound bad either, do you personally keep yours in total mint condition for value?
I haven't added anything to my collection in a long time, but you can view some of my stuff here:

It's mostly figures by Mattel and DC Direct; I never got into the more expensive, high-end figures or statues. As you can see, all my stuff is opened and out of the box, but I have them in a glass display case.

i rip them out of the package pretty much as soon as i get back from the store. and i think a room full of unopened packages looks silly.
and i might suggest checking out the kotobukiya artfx+ "statues" they are now releasing for the new 52. superman and green lantern JUST came out with the rest of the justice league to follow up in coming months. i think they retail between 40-50 bucks so it's about double what the figures are. they have a nicer finish on them than the DC Direct figures, but they aren't posable. i have a darth vader and boba fett statue from their line of star wars in the same scale and i really like them.

I remember seeing your collection before, impressive! Love the batmobiles too!
Thanks I don't know if I could stand the unopened cases either. The $30-50 range is absolutely ideal for me, just to get started and when I feel like treating myself. How much are the figures regularly? Like the standard New 52 ones?
