I'm pretty sure people have been getting boners towards other people they've respected, and liked/loved. Getting boners has nothing to do with what you think about someone on a deeper level.

I know perfectly well sexy/kinky/erotic fan art exists for other characters, only with female characters does it cross into the mainstream.
