Dead is dead and Zoe may not be back in any REAL way?
I'm 100% cool with that.
This book really clicked for me the first arc, but I've had to let this thing go.
It possible this just reads better in trades, but this just seems to be all over the place. The references to lost see,Ed to be accurate at first, but what made lost great was the character developments and the relationships within the group. This group just seems to get more splintered and replaced with characters and more over the top elements I don't care about.
In ultimate x-men nick spencer perfected the slow burn that quickly wore thin, in morning glories mysteries just Pyle on to mystery a little too quickly, another great thing about lost is there bees these mysteries too, a relatively steady build until things hit the fan in season 4.
When you think about how little content is in 20 issues compared 3 seasons of television . Lost gave itself much more time to care about its characters because in the end that show was much more about the characters journey.
BAD TOUCHSCREEN TYPER
I'm not a fan of it, just a ton of questions still lingering as far as her character is concerned not just the question of why is she killing people.
To make another lost reference, this death just seems as out of the blue as echo in lost, but that's because that guy didn't want to be on the show anymore.
17 was almost my last issue but wanted to finish the arc, my wallet hates me for it. Damn digital making this crap too easy to buy

BAD TOUCHSCREEN TYPER
Well he pretty much said things about her will be addressed. It's just there's no plans for her to physically show up I guess.
i think the relationships have been developed. and with a large cast, it takes time to spotlight each of them. personally, i love the book and think it's the best-paced story on the market. i haven't enjoyed a monthly this much since the last Luna Brothers book.
it was a perfect send-off for one of the best cast members. i still have questions about her personal history, such as her family and all those boyfriends giving her presents. but it was unexpected, which i love about this book.

Yeah, I've got no real issues with the stories pacing. And while yeah I get that there's still a lot of more or less unexplained things going on each issue I feel like I'm knowing more and while there's definitely some confusion I do feel like I'm starting to piece the puzzle together.
1) I love this book and while I can understand people's dislike of mysteries not being answered quickly, I think it's awesome because it rewards rereads. The writing is so good that rereading isn't a chore and you get to see if anything else makes more sense yet.
2) Nick's view of silent pages is exactly how I feel. Also what he said about dialogs during a fight or chase scene. For example, I hate horror films where the person makes a witty remark before killing the killer ... just once i'd like to see the killer take advantage of that time to strike back.
3) I'm glad Nick is saying dead is dead. If you want to move us with a death, make it stick. Otherwise nothing else in the future of this book will be as powerful if we think it will be reversed at any minute.
One of the best Independents out there. Morning Glories is so damn good. I'm not sure we are getting the whole story on "dead is dead" because what about the girl they keep torturing? She seems to be beyond death. It's always the redheads who keep coming back (though Marvel hasn't brought Jean back again....yet). They mystery of this book is great. I hate having everything explained. Some fans want every little thing explained and do away with all mystery. Explain Michael Myers by giving him a tough childhood in Rob Zombie's remake. Things like that bother me. Real life doesn't work that way. Lots of times we don't get an explanation. Now with that said I think a lot of major mysteries will eventually be explained away over time, but those wanting every detail explained away will probably be disappointed.
What's with the title of this interview? Going out with a bang? I thought the book was being canceled at first. Then there was a hint that it might morph into another form or something. Whatever it is I'm too tired to pick up on it right now...
I read thing as. MORNING GLORY DAYS: Going Out With A Bong
That's why it's impossible to discuss this book with any fan. "You don't like it? Then you don't get it. You just want everything explained to you; go read some more Bendis."
I.... don't enjoy this book. To me it's a really fascinating failure at this point.
And that has to do with a lot of the narrative choices that Spencer makes in issues like this one. Compiled to the mystery, on top of mystery, this stretched, silent paced comic really doesn't read well as a single issue. 2 out of 3 of the MG issues I read come off as "okay, now what?". It is LOST at its most frustrating. A mystery doesn't have to be resolved; it does have to sustain itself. That is to say, add more satisfaction than it takes away. "I want to see how this ties up" can only sustain a book for so long.
The idea that we're now getting more new characters to follow adds nothing for me since our original six, five, still feel like shells. Compiled character synopses that barely interact, lost under the plot, only to be given the occasional special issue in which, gasp, two main characters have a conversation!
Does anyone remember the teacher from issue 6? Y'know, that first of the many "side" characters who got an entire issue and yet was never seen again? "No, no, at some point, you'll see how she ties to everything and it will be awesome!" Will it? Because
These kids are interesting and I think that the overall mystery might be a cool story but it's not being told in the best of ways.
Could Spencer "pay it off" at the end? Maybe. might he take the "well it's about the journey" path of LOST to explain the resounding woon-woon, he's crafted? Maybe. Could I r but on an issue-by-issue basis, I won't be able to say that I enjoyed reading this series.
There's mystery and there's uneven storytelling. Glad that people are enjoying it as I don't want the book cancelled before it's time but this is the latter, in my opinion.
I'm dropping off the monthlies with the end of this arc and will check it out in TPBs once the series is over.
Yes, that issue was great.
I don't think they feel like shells anymore. I would have agreed back in the first few issues, and I think Nick even mentioned it was a gamble to start that way and THEN introduce the characters later [or I have a faulty memory], but since those issues where each character got their own issue I think they're fleshed out pretty well at this point.
Anyway, to each their own.
I agree with you. Anyone who feels these characters are a shell should re-read the issues they have. I sat down and read the series (to date) in one sitting and was enjoying it immensely. You have to take in subtle nuances and hints at what could be set up for the future. I don't need an instruction manual as some readers do or characters established for 30+ years. I find myself too impatient to wait for trades but they make a nice supplement so you can read in a sitting more easily. Ironically I'm very patient when it comes to a story unraveling. Maybe that's the writer in me and my ability to relate to how a story unfolds over time. You can't simply "know" a character this early into a series especially one as mysterious as Morning Glory. If all that interests you is the payoff at the end you are missing one hell of a journey along the way. As Phil Jackson former coach of Michael Jordan's and Kobe's Lakers once said "it's not all about the destination, but enjoying the journey along the way" or something along those lines.
Yes, I'm not comfortable with that either. P.E. made me fall in love with Zoe especially after 2 moments:
Moment no 1:"WE'RE NOT GOING BACK, YOU PUSSIES!"
2 moments are tied for the second place: 1) when she laid out bare to Hunter why someone like Casey would never be with him, even though she didn't have to.
2) when she yelled that she accepts who she is.
Going back at the beginning of P.E. I got the feeling when Gribbs and Georgina were discussing about drawing a monster out of the crowd that they were talking about Zoe.
This book just keeps speeding up and dizzyfying. I started with only liking Casey, but now I love all of Glories.
