Default Is there an opportunity to change Cass?

I haven't been able to catch up with the DCNU yet but from what I gather, Cassandra Cain hasn't been reintroduced.

Does DCNU allow for allow for changes/retcons be made to her character? Also what if any changes would readers like to see made in Cass?

Get rid of her time as a villain.

A costume change would be nice. I'm split on whether to suggest supporting her going back to being a mostly mute and illiterate ninja. Certainly, she shouldn't be an intellectual or talkative, no matter what.
I would like to say for the record that this is the FIRST TIME I've withheld dong when someone was so desperately asking for some.

I could had swear i had already replied and i just realize this is a completely different thread by someone else

Its kind of nice to see a lot of ppl having the same idea

I already said it in other threads but i think this is the perfect opportunity to reinvent the character
just go back to the basics and relaunch her like they did with supergirl for example, and be more involve with batman, that way is going stick better

What's wrong with keeping her as the Black Bat, agent of Batman Inc and former Batgirl?

Take away her connection to Batman (including all past history) and make her kill-happy anti-heroine. The Batfamily vaguely disapproves.

    EXTREEEME.

Why mess with perfection? Just keep Lobdell as far away from her as possible.

That's pretty much the only thing that needs to happen with her character. It was poor characterisation in a stupid plot. Nuke it from Orbit. Everything else about Cass is awesome though.

I really liked Cass as mostly mute/illiterate, as in I thought it made for a good character. It never came across as presenting her as 'stupid' or 'dumb', even when other characters would say things along those lines. I remember one story where Barbara in a moment of frustration berates Cass for being 'stupid' and not able to read, which really hurt Cass and led to a falling out between them - which is exactly why I like that characterisation. Plus it makes for a perfect dynamic for a more chatty character like Steph or Dick to play off, with Cass being the 'Straight Man' who kicks your arse.

I honestly would rather her not be illiterate. She doesn't have to be a world class reader, but have her where she can read and write well enough to communicate what she needs to. Regarding being mute, maybe make it where she just doesn't talk very much rather then straight on mute. Remove the villian aspect.

Possible background could be: Street wise kid, was trained by someone (don't know who) to act for her defense rather then as a actual killer. She finds out about maybe babs in this case, or Dick and decides to help out by dealing with the lower quarters of Gotham. She can be the Black Bat easily.

Oh if her previous history (ie her Batgirl series) is still kept in continuity then for sure have her able to read and write at a basic level. Character development is king. If they're going to start her from scratch I'd prefer to see her stay true to her past characterisation, but that would be my non-preferred option.

it would be a missing change

I think she could be much more than that if she starts again and not just be another one of the many members of Inc

Disregard anything related to Beechen. Let her go back to being Batgirl: quiet, elective mute, struggling in places with literacy, bereft of most any concept of social skill, more or convention (as befits an upbringing in silence where her only connection was a singular authority -- loving and abusive by turns).

And I've said it elsewhere, so I'll just quote myself here: "Lots of missed opportunities with developing her, I've always felt... They could explore struggles with language, literacy, social skills... By teaching her detective skills, we could see her body language reading ability pushed to new heights: A footprint alone or in combination with some finger prints can betray things about the maker's posture which she could mentally reconstruct even in their absence and perhaps deduce some of the parameters of their thinking in that moment..."

Take her back to her roots and let her grow realistically, organically. There's lots of room to grow with her.
