Whilst I still (and probably always will) prefer Hitch's bulky, fighter jet esque armour, I can live with this purely for the fact it looks sleek and shiny. The sports car to the old jeep armour Tony used to use... and it's a damn sight better than the movie armour we've been putting up with!
Also, this is my personal headcanon: Tony finally got to analyse Mahr Vel's armour and put the tech he found to good use! I quote: "I so want to reverse engineer that!".
"Predictable? If there were any more plot twists going on, we'd need M. Night Shyamalan to randomly appear at the end saying 'What a twist' before vanishing". - Kurolegacy on Ult X-Men #8.

But being better looking isn't the same as being sexy. The armour is deliberately ugly, appearing unrefined and clunky and with no apparent interest in anything approaching aesthetic appeal. Its like the powerloader from Aliens, all work and no play. Thats what is so great about the Hitch design. It looks great the same way the Millenium Falcon looks great. Beautiful ugly.
