Yeah a nod to EOTE would be nice if we knew where this fits into continuity. WE DON'T. IT'S THE FIRST ISSUE. We literally have little to no idea what's going on or where it's going. You are ABSOLUTELY jumping to conclusions just by starting a thread bashing Bendis and his continuity when you haven't even given him a chance to establish or screw it up yet. You can bash things like where does Spider-Island fit into regular continuity (as no one outside of the Spidey books seems to recognize it). You can bash where AVX fits in as Spider-Man is fighting Doc Ock in his book (EOTE) and not mentioning mutants or Phoenixes at all. You can bash Fear Itself (in fact please bash it. I still don't understand it completely!) Every event or miniseries has a few continuity snags. THAT'S WHY MINISERIES ARE USUALLY SELFCONTAINED. This book.....It's the first issue. We don't know which Mysterio this is, we don't know which universe this is in. We don't know what time period this is in. There's way too much we don't know. You can be bugged with Bendis and continuity, but jumping the gun this soon makes you look bad, bro.

It's totally Ultimate Mysterio. I picked up on that as soon as he said, "I missed out on your death before. NOT THIS TIME!"

Since 616 Peter is still alive, 616 Mysterio would have no reason to say that. Plus, the only time I recall ever seeing Mysterio with his helmet off for no reason was in USM. I don't think he even HAD a helmet in USM.

EDIT: Further more, if you'll notice, Ultimate Mysterio wasn't present at Peter's death at the hands of the Sinister Six. That fact would strengthen the argument I made about it being Ultimate Mysterio.

Unless 616 Mysterio had some sort of viewing portal into the Ultimate world. He watches Spider-Man for a while, but misses his death.......You're probably right, you're answer makes sense, but who knows yet.....

i sometimes lean pretty hard to certain sides of something to instigate debate. not too worried about how i look to people. and i bashed spider island and fear itself. and bashing bendis isnt jumping to conclusions about the goodness of the story. i think it will be good. bashing bendis about any kind of continuity (especially anything involving AMAZING because its not his) is not jumping to conclusions at all because of his history.

seriously i wouldnt be surprised if bendis had 616 eddie brock venom show up....
marvel- "umm hey bendis isnt flash thompson the new venom in the 616 now?"
    bendis- "no hes not"
marvel- "umm yeah actually eddie brock hasnt been venom for awhile now in the 616...."
bendis- "well then this isnt venom from 616.... hes from the 617 "

and for people saying "we dont know when this story takes place" ..... ummm it SHOULD take place where its taking place unless otherwise stated in the book. ive seen plenty of books with specific little note boxes "took place before/after#issue". if it doesnt have one of those boxes or a specific date/year then im gonna assume its taking place next in the continuity of "amazing" and "ultimate".

I think the better theory is that there is no Ultimate Mysterio and the one we've been seeing, which we already know is a fake body being controlled remotely, is being remotely controlled by the Mysterio from the 616. Through his Ultimate Avatar he's been committing all kinds of crimes in the Ultimate Universe and occasionally reading the Ultimate Daily Bugle on the Ultimate internet. There he read about Ultimate Peter's death and was upset that he missed out on it.

Yeah, that'd be a valid argument if this didn't take place right now.. but it clearly does. He doesn't need to put "this story takes place right now". Your evidence that it may not take place right now is that he doesn't properly greet his long time adversary Mysterio who he recently saw. When superheroes see super villains, they have to wait and not fight until they discuss the nature of their latest encounter? Wow, I have been away for a long time. Bendis didn't make any continuity errors, he just didn't mention recent events. People are already complaining that the series started off too slow, and now you want him to waste more time explaining what else spidey's been up to recently?

I'll say, at least on the Ultimate Side of things, that it takes places between issue #12 and 13. Unless, of course, Miles receives his web shooters from May Parker in issue #12. Then I have no clue, because Miles clearly doesn't have them in Spider-Men #1 but I honestly couldn't tell you where this story takes place if not between this current arc and Divided We Fall.

What makes you say that? The word "clearly" is what caught my attention.

Er... sorry I was referring to the preview for #2. Not #1. We see Peter use his shooters but Miles has to use his web to counter. Perhaps it's not 100% clear, but I think it's 99% safe to say he doesn't have them by Spider-Men #2 yet, and by extension, #1 either.

Also, to be technical, we don't see him use them in #1 either. He's jumping onto that building, similar to what's he's been doing thus far.

Well that's incorrect. Because RIGHT NOW would mean it takes place between USM #11 and 12. So Miles helps Aaron take down the Scorpion, then Aaron threatens Miles, then Miles and Peter team up against Mysterio, then Miles confronts Aaron? Yeah I doubt it.

I've been seeing that theory being thrown around in this thread a lot, but I don't really understand the proof behind it.

Didn't we already establish that 616 Mysterio is either dead and that Ultimate Mysterio is the Mysterio of both worlds?

NOTE: I don't buy that either, really. I honestly just think we're all over thinking it. I'm standing by my thought for the time being. All will be revealed soon enough,
