Yes, I like Ben. He should be similar to Peter, but affected by their different life experiences. They are more alike than even identical twins, having partially the same memories after all.
I think Marvel overrecated to the clone backlash by killing Ben. Once Peter was established as the real Spidey, there should still have been room for Ben. I think it's past time that Ben came back.

And yet, Ben was a more authentic Pete than post-OMD timey-wimey Petey now is. Ben shared Pete's history (until they diverged). As of right now, Pete doesn't even share his history with himself!

Ben was a photocopy. BND-alternaPete has been photoshopped.

I loved Ben. As to people saying he was just another Peter, prior to them making him Spider-Man, he really was a distinct character. Even after he was Peter-ized in his Spider-Man series, you still saw the differences in them, as was commented by other characters. Ben had lived a radically different life and had a different perspective. He was a lot tougher and more confident than Peter. He was bolder and a bit more hotheaded. He had Peter's core personality and sense of decency, but he was a lot more uncompromising, troubled and less trusting of the authorities. He wasn't as unstable or anti-hero-ish as Kaine, but he wasn't quite as square and whitebread as Peter.

I would love to see Ben come back eventually, but they'd have to find an interesting place for him. I think it'd be interesting if Ben joined the cast of the current book, because I think it'd be funny to see Ben and the new Kaine playing off each other, almost like a weird buddy cop/older-younger brother dynamic. Scarlet Spiders, anyone? I've heard a lot of people say that Ben could return as a brainwashed agent of the Jackal and Kaine would then have to try and save Ben the way Ben had saved him. I could see both those ideas working, but I'd leave them for a ways down the line.

That said, Kaine is fantastic and has gone from an interesting villain to one of my favorite heroes. Marvel needs to make an action figure of him. I want Ben back, absolutely, but not at the cost of Kaine as Scarlet Spider. That series is way too awesome and that character has come too far. I really was glad to see Kaine talk about Ben as his brother and what a good man he was. The two of them made their peace shortly before Ben's death, so it was nice to see.

I am really protective of my favorite character so I really don't like any variations on him. Whether its the tease that Ben was the original all along, with the plan from Marvel to really have him replace Pete (ugh), or Flash Venom or that kid from the Initiative with the Iron Spider costume I really don't like anyone else having Spidey's powers. I want him to be unique.

I loved Ben, though as some have said, I wish his personality diverged from Peter's a lot more. There were some differences, but for the most part they were the same. It's this fact that makes the current Scarlet Spider very awesome.

Very true, Pete is essentially Ben these days without the marriage and his lighter attitude back, which is what Ben was written for anyway. Kaine gives alot more depth and story opportunities with his quest for redemption.

That was really how Ben was written as Spider-Man, which was really different from how he was when introduced as Scarlet Spider. Ben was a lot more of a tough, confident and somewhat bitter version of Peter. If you read Lost Years, that character is clearly as different from Peter as Kaine is. That's why I never really buy that Ben is too much like Peter as an argument not to use him. They have the same core personality, but Ben was a very different guy. The only time he was written as lighthearted was when he was Spider-Man and that was largely because he had been freed of his self-doubt and gotten his dream life back. But generally, Ben was really different from Peter.

Loved Ben Reilly, was never really hot with the idea of him being the "real" Spider-Man, but thought he was a great character/concept.

And if Sony is serious about having a Spider-Man "universe" of movies, I think it's time for Ben to have a comeback... in a BIG way.

i love Ben. i could see jackle showing up in the new ss w/spidercide in tow sporting a device that has the clone brothers minds stored on it and starts swapping spidercides mind w/ Kaine and then Ben. Kaine would eventually get ben in permently into spidercide's body and destroy the device. Ben could then have to deal w/ being a "monster" and eventually search for Jannie, and finds out he's the father of Reilly Tyne. a different power set and different personal life all in one shot.

I passionately loved the concept of Peter having a "brother" who knew everything and shared his powers. It really gave a shoulder to a character who desperately needed one. Peter and Ben are an awesome bromance.

But it went horribly wrong with trying to make Ben the "real Peter". That drove everybody nuts. It went so, so wrong with that.

But the concept itself of Ben being Peter's "brother" was sheer awesome.

This I agree with! I think it would be great to see Ben come back as well as the last gwen stacey clone and have those to have a romance with one another. This would let us see how Peter's life may have turned out had he still had Gwen in his life.

They've got Kaine now though, the more he moves towards redemption an being a better man, the more he'll be like Ben anyway. Once the series is established I'm sure there'll be a few Parker Brothers reunions now and again.

Saying that, Ben could easily be brought back, either by clone means or mystical web of life/totem resurrection deal. Could even just have Ben's memories and powers overwrite some unknown John Doe's, minus the personality, then you've almost got Ben back, a quest for how and why and a quest to regain the real identity.

Loads of possibilities for bringing him back really. I'm sure he'll be back at some point.
