Cool, thanks again. I wanted to start this series with #1, but never got around to it. Will definitely start from here, now, though. It seems like there's a lot of acclaim regarding #13.

Well in my opinion it was the best because it has a direction now which I felt the previous issues didn't. But the previous issues will get you prepared for DWF.

So I finally took the dive today and decided to add Ultimate Comics X-Men to my pull list. It was a combination of Divided We Fall coming and everyone here talking about #13 that did me in. Tonight I'll be playing catch up and I'll be ready to discuss this madness with you all soon. I very much enjoyed #13 even though I didn't really know what was going on. I read issue #1 way back but didn't continue.

For a better understanding of what's going on you could pickup Ultimate X (Loeb's best work in the UU).

Thanks for the advice sage and Chaos! I picked up #13 today and enjoyed it enough. Definitely give #14 a try.

Sage and Chaos. Mmm. Sounds quite nice. I bet it'd make an excellent salad dressing. XD

If you eat it you will get smarter, but you will never be able to uses that knowledge because you will lose the ability to keep you thoughts straight

Haha, I'll take it with a side of Chaos, please.

Also, who's Johnny? The dark-haired guy who stays behind in #13.

I had thought so, that line about "intellectually" sounded like something Johnny would say. But the dark hair threw me, haha.

What has been repeatedly mentioned in the current storyline are the events of Ultimatum, so I would take Ultimatum as the starting point for starting from scratch. Loeb has in his return to Marvel acted in the capacity of being a company man; therefore, I see Ultimatum as fulfilling a directive to take the Ultimates universe firmly in a new direction away from 616. The old had to be cleared away such as Cyclops so that in this Ultimates / X-Men universe Kitty Pryde can finally come into her own as a leader, a role that she has always been teased to have in various alternate futures / realities but could never achieve in 616.

Anyone know if they are still going to sell the variant for Ultimate Comics X-Men 14 or not? Since they replaced it.

They didn't replace the variant, they replaced main cover. Variant is still the same it was supposed to be from the beginning.
