Astro City Question

I recently got all the astro city comics that have been published up until now on ebay at a great price because someone recommended the title. I am four issues in to the original mini and I am so uninterested..... I am not a huge fan of one hot story telling. I am probably going to keep going at least through part of the second series to see if it gets better but I am unfortunately just not into it yet. Should I just expect6 more of the same or does the book pick up? I know this book was quite the critical darling so I want to give it a fair shot.

You might prefer the longer stories like "Confessions" or "Tarnished Angel" which happen in the second series. There's also the 16 part Dark Age storyline as well. I prefer the short stories though.

All the stories sort of add to a bigger whole though I think.
