The PF IS that life force.

Actually, he's right. He's referring to the Phoenix force's origin story in Excalibur. It feeds on the lifeforce of future life. Every Phoenix feat is an abortion.

This explains Dazzler's exit to the multi-verse. She takes it personally.

Well, as I understood it, the Phoenix is the life force (I am life and fire incarnated!). When it bonds with someone this host uses the life of the universe, the energy of the Phoenix. That is why the Phoenix broke her bond with Rachel, to avoid her aborting future life. And I think that is why Jean says "They will not let me stay here for long" when she came back at the end of Morrison's run. That is a nice detail about Phoenixes: They do not get to live long while keeping the power.

Of course, the actual event shows the Phoenix feasting on a planet for nourishment when it still lacked a host, which is not really coherent with that explanation.

What I don't get is, if that's the case that the host can't live long while keeping the Phoenix's power, why was Jean able to keep its power for at least 10 years in Age of Apocalypse?
Holding out for a Peter/Miles team up.

Not many things made a tremendous amount of sense in that mini. And besides, that is not really canon, Morrison just insinuated it. After all, who are those "them" who would not let Jean stay longer?
