Sounds an idea have a complete electronic database on Comicbookrealm is that of any help?
Go through it, pick out all the good stuff (anything worth about $10 or more, and hot runs like Walking Dead) and sell them individually. Don't go by price guide prices, go by eBay completed listings prices, since that's what comics are actually selling for, and not just some numbers pulled out of a hat. If you haven't checked your comics prices recently you're likely to be disappointed, but you'll get to that when the time comes. Anyway, after you've cherry picked your collection thoroughly, the best thing to do is offer the rest of your collection in bulk on Craigslist for just pennies per issue. $50 per longbox and they might sell.

Yeah, selling comics in bulk you'd be lucky to get 10 cents an issue from what I've experienced at comic shops. I've always been friends with the owners of places I've shopped (similar interests and whatnot), and I've seen so many people come in with high hopes of a return on their "investment" with all of the number one issues and comics they assume might be worth a lot because they're 20 or 30 years old when in reality comic shops across the land have countless copies of whatever they have that will never sell. E-baying anything worth a damn, like Dupont said, is the way to go. Just accept that anything you can't sell individually will be practically not worth the time to sell (you may get lucky like he said and get 40 or 50 bucks a box, but they'd have to be in a buying mood and most shops I go to can't move back issues and don't want more inventory).
A Fool for the Foom
I've been trying to sell my collection at $100 per box with zero luck. That's like less than 50 cents an issue. Good stuff too. I did manage to sell one box at $75, but since then nothing. Here's a pic I e-mailed to some guy who is going to either never reply or tell me he's not interested
Decent stuff, not worth a thing in reality though

I'm selling about 4500 comics right now. I'm finding that I'm lucky to get maybe 50 cents a book on Ebay. I need room for the new ones I'm buying. All the best story arcs from the older books are out in tradepaperbacks somewhere, anyway.
You might want to check Amazon.com. All the No Man's Land arc is being released as trades. Volumes 1 and 2 are out already.
Cool, just trying to be helpful, make conversation.
Thanks everyone for your tips
Have been offered around 2k for everything by a local shop (guy has a huge personal collection he would like to add my stuff to)
i am just not reading that much any more
have gone a month without buying books and just want to get some space again
have said to him that i would like to keep a few runs and he can have the rest
should i take the money and run selling back issues in australia is like pulling hens teeth (useless proposal)

Take the money. I doubt you're going to get a better deal than that.
Do you have any actual key issues, or is it all post-1970s random junk?
If its the latter, I would take the $2,000 for 4,000 comics. You aren't likely going to get a better deal that that. If you have any key issues though, I would separate them out and sell them individually.
Mark Waid sold his collection here.
