    Default Favorite Anime OST

For me, anything by Yoko Kanno is golden. From GitS to Escaflowne to Macross, her music has been a godsend to the anime world. lol

There are a ton of anime out there with some really great OST's, so what are some of yours?

Shakugan no Shana had some seriously good scores - I don't recall anything specific from the first season but the second and third seasons really kicked ass music wise.

Akira has a very memorable, original soundtrack. Or is that now considered old hat amongst modern anime viewers?

I'd say it's good, not great.

I'll second Macross Plus though. One of my favorite animes ever.

Although Record of Lodoss War OVA OST was good.

Having Susumu Hirasawa compose your soundtrack is always an awesome choice.

One Piece: A sweeping orchestral score with some electronic, rock, and other elements mixed into it. The music that is played helps enhance certain scenes, and makes other memorable.

Lupin The Third has some of the best tracks I've ever heard in an anime

Yoko Kanno rules the school. The fact that the same woman is the composer for Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Macross Plus AND Ghost in the Shell, all of which have WIDELY diverging audio themes, consistently blows me away.

I mean, seriously... look at her credits. Nobody else comes close to the range and quality that she regularly displays.

True. Yoko Kanno has such an amazing and varied range when it comes to her music. Most composers have a "tell" that lets you know that they are the creator of that music without having to see their name attached to it (Hans Zimmer for example).

YK really doesn't have a "tell" The only way you can identify her is by the sheer fact that the music is so freakin good there's no other possibility for it not to be her

    Mother Sea by Kouhei Tanaka.

A beautiful, and emotional piece that has become one of my favorite of the series.

I also have to agree with Yoko Kanno.

That women can do no wrong when it comes to music.
