Marvel and DC are both starving for writers in their stables. What better place to look for new ideas than aspiring writers? I think the Ed Brubakers, Brian K Vaughns, Warren Ellis-es, Neil Gaimans, don't write comics anymore. Should look at the new generation for inspiration...better than recycling Rob Liefeld and his clones.
Despite that the Court of Owls has started dragging for me, it's nice to see new talent get a shot like this. I'm a little cautious, I don't know how well he knows the Batman mythos, and I suspect until he gets comfortable writing comics, his style may be very similar to Snyder at first, but all the same, bringing in new people is a good thing. I mean, he's only working on his own book and telling the story he wants to tell, so if the worse comes to worse, it's not like he'll be negatively affecting Batman.
Actually most of those artist are more co-plotters. Take for example Flash and Batwoman, Brian Buccellato is the one that writes the dialogue while W.Haden Blackman writes the dialogue Batwoman (both have written stuff before). This is common practice, where people like Giffen and Perez who both stated co-plotting while they were the artist for their respective book.
Also I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time DC has done this before. Kyle Higgins started the same way as Tynion IV did. Began doing back-ups then he started co-writing something with Snyder which ultimately landed him Nightwing (and Deathstroke).
I'm kinda excited for the book. Though i wonder who gonna color it, since I'm not the biggest fan of Tomeu Morey (the guy that colored for March before).
I guess Saiko isn't the only time the Court messed up.
I don't think I would be interested in picking up such a title. If I wanted another Batman spin-off, I'd rather they brought back Azrael.
He might turn out to be a disappointment or he might turn out to be a brilliant writer. We don't know right now. I am glad that DC is giving this youth his chance. It is good for the industry overall
That can't be a Guillem March cover -- it's drawn proportionally, in a pose that makes sense, and with nothing shoved in our faces that causes bizarre conversations with my 10-year-old daughter.
Oh, wait, Talon isn't a woman -- that explains it.
Some days a girl wants to ride ponies. Some days a girl wants to punch tanks. Today ... is a tank day.
What has me curious is that there's no mention of Nightwing; seeing that they're going to be of similar ages, the chances are good that Dick and Calvin knew each other growing up.
Anyone who thinks DC is bringing back the Silver Age doesn't know what the Silver Age is.
There is no such word as "persay," it's per se, two words, from the Latin.
Not having followed any of the Bat-titles outside of Nightwing, where do we get introduced to Calvin? What significant appearances has he had, and in what issues?
I have mixed thoughts on this. For one, I don't like how Snyder's owls storyline needed to be so long and touch every other book from the line, it does'nt help that this new title will keep telling stories based on a premise that I did'nt want to see again in a long time.
On the other hand, I'm all for giving opportunities to new writers and this guy seems to have skills and is passionate about his work, I think I will give the title a chance.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
i'm getting it to support and help this noob writer out.
i'll be in his shoes soon enough.
Really excited for this book. I just find it weird that we have a huge villain coming out of this story as well as a hero with similar looks, names and backgrounds...
