Normally people say this about Hawkeye.

Read Mighty Avengers when he joins. That's why he's so freaking awesome!

EDIT: To go further, Pym is a mad scientist. He could be one of the worlds most destructive villains if he could, but he's a timid and insecure good guy. He's likable, as long as you're not a moron who goes "LOL HE SLAPPED HIS WIFE! WORST AVENGER EVAR!!!"

Not just hurting Jan, but hurting his friends too, are the things hes most ashamed of. So what does he do? He opens a fucking school to give people like himself a second chance and guide people! By both showing them how to be a hero and using himself as an example of what not to do. Love it.

i have no problem with him being a mad scientist. that part of him is actually interesting. my issue is with him being Ant-Man. i think he makes a lousy Ant-Man. i think they were wise to have him pass the identity along. it's like Greer Grant becoming Tigra. no one still calls her The Cat. they shouldn't be calling Pym 'Ant-Man.' you'd understand if one of your favorites was constantly in competition with someone using the same codename.

He can go places where other heroes can't. So stealth is a big part of him. You can do cool stuff with him like that classic story where he is inside of the Vision trying to fix him and being attacked by the Vision's anti-bodies.

His control of ants is more of an asset than you might expect. See early Avengers issues where he has ants weakening the ground under people, etc.. And even big bruisers like say, Absorbing Man can't really do much when they have ants crawling all over them distracting them.

He can ride on flying ants, so flight is something he can do.

With Hank Pym all of that is added on to the idea of the science hero who uses his brains as much as his powers to creatively think his way out of situations.

Scott Lang was just a super likeable guy and had a daugher which was a little different at the time, you rarely if ever saw single father heroes. His past as a criminal just added to his back story. He was willing to break the law and fight dirty to get things done, but was still heroic. His interest in old movies was a lot of fun as well.

I haven't really warmed up to the new Ant-Man, but he has a different personality that has possibilities. The selfish jerk who needs to learn to be a hero type.
you'll be happy to know that he died while acting selflessly to save a child.

    Why is he cool:

He can shrink to a small size and has a somewhat unique view on the world.
He is a smart guy who can invent all sorts of cool gadgets which he can shrink and grow as needed.
He has twice devised a plan to capture Loki which is pretty cool.
He is not perfect he has faults and doubts and works to overcome them.
In an odd twist of logic the least cool thing about him might be the ants.

William Cross had one of the shortest villain caeers ever. i wonder how the stockholders took his untimely death. he was supposed to be a very succesful businessman; up there w/ Stark. i think it's weird that he was Crossfire's cousin.

I've never gotten that. The Incredible Shrinking Man was almost impossible for me to enjoy 40 years ago, but at least that had the added suspense that he couldn't control his shrink and it was only getting worse. Ant-Man riding ants is about a bazillion times worse than Aquaman on a seahorse.

Having said that, I've loved the characters of Pym and Lang. Pym, not so much until after he paid his debts and returned to the Avengers. Still, I prefer him as "The Scientific Adventurer." Lang was always great. I don't like O'Grady.

so if there were an amusement park that featured giant ant rides, you'd be completely uninterested in flying on one?

Hank is like the Marvel equivalent to Aquaman.
The Punisher: I’m going to cauterize your rectum, sealing it shut, so when you turn those delicious Pink Pants™ Fruit Pies into waste products the bilirubin in your feces will leach into your bloodstream and you’ll die screaming! And I’ll watch while having sex with this grateful prostitute!

Trussed-Up Hooker: Blueberry are my favorite!

In other words, what StoneGold said.

I'm pretty sure they meant in the "being made fun of" category.
