Bragging rights. My favorite film was more popular that your favorite film.

Bragging right and sequel incentive...though that doesn't seem to be as much of an issue any more. The more money a movie makes the bigger the chance of a sequel.

Will it make $600 million domestically? I think so. It's rate of earning is tracking a $600 million end total.

This is awesome news. Way to go, Marvel. Good work planning the movies and making it awesome.

    Do you understand sports?
Replace "points scored" with "money" and it's basically the geek version of that.

Those aren't anything alike, at all.

The money thing seems to be getting weird around here, sometimes it almost doesn't sound like people care all that much if the movie is good, just that it makes money...I guess so they can get another of something that wasn't very good the first time around.

The money thing seems like it's just to validate there choice in viewing.

You hit the nail on the head right there. It's human nature to want validation for the things that we like. Making gobs of money validates that maybe the movie was as good as you (the general you) thought.

There's rumor about a re-release of a "director's cut" version of Avengers being released in August. If it does get a new cut released, I'll be very interested in seeing it.

I found the whole industry and box office in general fascinating.

Must say I'm very much interested too. Having a favorite movie is like having a favorite sports team or player. You root for it, want it to succeed and beat the other guys. In this spirit ... Go Dark Shadows !

I understand wanting a film to do well, it's just the intense interest in the exact amounts of money that I don't follow. I'm just not a very money-minded person, though.

Normally I would have agreed with you, but as it inched closer and closer to records, I figured that was the easiest way to get it higher. Plus, they'd said there was a lot left on the cutting room floor.
