    Default Ame-Comi WW 3 Spoilers/Discussion

So, pretty much exactly what you think would happen, happens.

Cheetah throws skull-bomb-thingies at Diana, who easily deflects them while pushing Steve Trevor aside. He starts to evacuate the other Ambassadors. Cheetah approaches her target, about to kill him before being snagged in the Lasso of Truth. After they throw each other around a bit, Cheetah is compelled to tel her deep, dark motivation for attacking the UN; she was getting paid for it, shock horror.

Steve reminds Diana not to kill Cheetah while cameras are watching, so she turns her over to security. There's an interesting bit where Diana warns the cop not to touch the lasso because "men can't touch the lasso". He does it anyway and starts babbling and crying about being a secret fan of curling. That's something I've not seen before. Cheetah remarks that she wants a lasso like that, which is very "Cheetah". She's tried to steal it enough times, really.

Cut to the villainesses' lair, with Duela Dent, Catwoman and Poison Ivy discussing their partner-in-crime being captured. Duela, who appears to be the leader, remarks both that she likes WW or "the big bitch" as she calls her and that they should, naturally, free Cheetah. They say some villainous things and the issue ends with the promise of Batgirl next week.

Overall, I liked it. The writing was fun, Cheetah and Wonder Woman were competent in a Silver Agey way and Duela Dent is interesting- I honestly don't know if her mini will showcase her as a villain or have her switch sides, but it's makes me want to find out. Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman had a nice dynamic, too. The thing with the lasso being extra powerful against men is strange, but in a world of no male super-types, it's not like it will be a major issue. A bit strange, that.

By far the weak point was the art; Tony Akins tried to do Amanda Conner's style and it fell very flat. They should have had her finish all three or had someone like Amy Reeder fill in instead. It was a HUGE step down. That said, I liked the way Cheetah moved. But everything else was just kind of sloppy and ugly. But Batgirl next week has beautiful art again, so I'm not overly miffed in the long run.

    So? What did you think?
Looking for artists, know I won't find any. That blows.

Interesting how Azzarello's and Ame-comi are almost diametrically opposed. Azz's WW comes from a violent and warlike nation but seeks peace. Ame-comi WW comes from a peaceful nation, but is extremely violent.

I liked the issue overall, although I felt that Cheetah came off a bit too cartoony in terms of the art. I also found Duela interesting at the end and, given previous uses of the character, I would not be surprised if she's playing the bad-girls for her own ends.

Loved this Wonder Woman, this Ame-Comi initiative is awesome. Great art, fun writing, creative offbeat stuff that's different from the main line, I dig. Can't wait for them to get to Power Girl.

So is Akins the go-to guy for fill ins? He's petty good at copying other artists styles, Im a bit surprised. But yeah... his art is no where near as good as Conner's, which is a shame but it's still alright and I don't think detracts from the issue that much. Personally I loved the expression on Cheetah's face when Diana had her in the lasso.

That was a little cheap by DC. Akins clearly does the issue but he is not listed on the cover or even the interior credits. I think he's listed on the Comixology description page but that's it.

His art was okay. I don't think it was bad as much as it was a downgrade from Conner, and pretty much anyone is a downgrade from Conner. A few of the panels looked a little crappy but overall I thought the art was alright. I liked his Cheetah and thought her design in general was fantastic.

The story was decent. I thought the battle between WW and Cheetah was dreadfully boring and cliche (Palmiotti and Gray always write really dull and uninspired superhero battle scenes), but I liked the little "interrogation" with WW afterwards, and I really dug the closing teaser scene with the villains. Overall I liked it and thought it was certainly worth the money. I maintain that DC is putting essentially the same amount of story in these as you get in your average "regular sized" issue, but at a third of the price. It more or less feels like what comics should cost.

Probably not the best thing to post in the Wonder Woman forum, but I'll be honest and say that WW is my least favorite character they have as a main star, so I am really excited for things to take off with Batgirl, Duela, and PG (and Supergirl to a lesser extent). I really love the fun tone of this series and have been satisfied thus far.

The art... the story.... was a total disaster compared to the very good first tow chapters.
Well D C ya gone and did it.

After the first two chapters I was all set to buy this each week.....
But this crap has me not looking forward to next week and......

Batgirl? ummmm well it is Babs and she will probably be all cute and adorable and
OK.... I will forgive you for the mess you made of a really good Wonder Woman and
read Batgirl part one next week.

I agree, it can't be easy having to come in and do a Conner; I thought it was rushed Amanda C until I came here. And while there were indeed some rough spots, there were also bits I really liked, such as the panel of Cheetah leaping at the Ambassador - very old school comics - and the work with Steve.

The script was briskly entertaining, I love the bit with the lasso compelling men to tell all. The colouring was bright and beautiful, while I laughed that the one word I spotted as misspelled was 'ignorance'. Come on, editors! And while you're at it, give Akins his credit, and don't call Gray and Palmiotti 'writters' - that error's been on all three instalments. Sloppy.

    Same.

But yeah, solid finale for the series. Looking forward to Batgirl. :)

It was horrible. The art was bad and the story was bland. Dropped.

At this point, it is probably too easy to please me with a Wonder Woman comic: just let Diana win a fight with a supervillain and you're halfway there. The violence fortunately wasn't as xtreeem as last week's. The art was weaker but competent.

The first part of the setup of the overarching story looks interesting. The steampunk villain lair was perhaps the most visually striking thing in the whole book for me.

What's sad is I'm new to reading again... and I never complain. I just thought this was thrown together.
