It's times like this that you realize how under developed DC' cosmic side is. Sure DC has some cosmic villains but most of them require alot of explaining, and dont translate to well to movies. I have an idea, why dont we go in a completely different direction from where the Avengers franchise is going. Its always been said that DC is the more magic centered of the big two so why dont the JL face off against a magical threat?

Examples of magical threats that would pose a big enough threat to the league.

Ares/Circe: Wonder Woman villains who are both powerful enough and has some name notoriety.

Queen of Fables: Again a powerful opponent for the league.

Necron: The devil of the DC universe.

If you dont want to go magical then you could use villains from the DCU that arent associated with the League.

    Example

The Time trapper from the legion of Superheroes

Or Krona from the Green Lantern rogue's gallery.

    Characters that might not work.
Darkseid: Sure us Comicbook fans no the difference but to the average viewer he's going to come off as a Thanos knockoff.

Characters like Doomsday or Starro seem more like monsters then villains and lack the pychological depth to carry a film alone. (much like the alien race in the Avengers).

I was thinking Darkseid, but maybe in a later sequel. I am thinking The Legion of Doom.

    Now Classic Legion..
    Lex Luthor
    The Riddler
    The Cheetah
    Sinestro
    Captain Cold
    Black Manta
    Solomon Grundy

Let's say some of these like Luthor, The Riddler, The Cheetah, Captain Cold, and Black Manta are used in the solo films that are planned and or sequels or reboots and they can't be used. I know they are looking for a shared DC Universe, but the director of each solo project may look for a different actor.. I don't know may not be a problem, they may recast the role.
Here's another idea use a new Legion of Doom by using Justice League villains from the Comics, animated shows, etc.
    How about using these:
Vandal Savage ( He was the leader of The Legion in Justice League:Doom and is thSolomone leader of The Light in the animated series Young Justice)
The Ultra- Humanite ( kinda not on the talking gorilla and putting that in a movie, but we do have the Planet of the Apes and his mind has been in other bodies, so he could be reimagined.)
Queen Bee ( A JL villain, and is in The Light in the Young Justice series)
    The Key
    Solomon Grundy
    Felix Faust
    Dr. Light
    Eclipso
    Prometheus

I know there are like nine listed.. but they can always substitute one....if one doesn't work... Personally, I like the classic Legion the best, but the other was just an idea.

but see if you do Legion of Doom in the first movie what do you do for the sequal.

You can use Darkseid in the sequel...I kinda thought of building the bigger threat for the sequel with Darkseid, Kalibak, Dessad, Steppenwolf, and the Parademons.

Oh, right, we want an action movie with a lot of nameless ugly alien to punch.
You really can't do Starro without changing how he possesses and controls people which is central to Starro's modus operandi. And that M.O. is he attaches organisms to people's faces. Unfortunately...

    THIS:

was beat to the big screen by this:

You can't do Starro without him attaching himself to people's faces. And in Hollywood, that's a case of been-there, done-that--and it will get laughed at and mocked by moviegoers as a lame Alien ripoff.

    Starro is out.

And time is a constraint too. This film, if it actually gets made, will have to establish everyone who is not Superman or Batman. So, at least three other characters. You need to explore who they are a little bit, and either get them together for the first time or explain and show that they've been working together for a while. You have to setup the bad guy, the conflict, the resolution, all that. If you go with Darkseid, it's easy and you can get through it faster than having to double up for all the villains the Society would need.

Could be wrong of course, I have no idea. But Darkseid seems the more likely option to me. Though a well done, Morrison-inspired Starro, with heavy tones of Aliens, could be terrifyingly cool, unique, and likely cheaper on the whole.
No. Because Disney got Marvel's Darkseid clone onscreen before WB got DC's original Darkseid onscreen. It's the same thing as with Alien and Starro. Did Starro and Darkseid get created first years before Aliens and Thanos? Sure. But it doesn't matter. Only comic book fans are going to understand and appreciate the difference. To critics and moviegoers who don't read comics, it's just going to come across as a ripoff. *That* is why you can't do it in a movie.

Check out Justice League Doom, they did pretty much what you're suggesting (some notable differences). Darkseid is my choice, 'cause he's quick and easy, and a great start. Love the injustice league for movie 2.

BTW I'm a big Spacey fan. LOVED him as Luthor.

So sad that Marvel has killed any chance of Darkseid ever making it to the big screen (at least in our life time). The alien invasion angle is out, so it would have to be a super villain team up as the main threat.

It's too bad. Masters of Evil would be more suited for the Avengers, then Darkseid could be used for the Justice League.
Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, Professor X, Mar-Vell, Richard Rider- Bring Them Back!!!

In our lifetime? No, it probably just won't be used in the first movie, but can easily be used in a second one, and they also can make a New Gods movie. If not, people won't care about that villain in Avengers 2 looking like the villain in the then current JL movie.

Avengers starts with a magical villain and then sets up an invasion by an unknown alien for the second film so JLA should not follow that formula.
If DC just starts with a New Gods movie and for it's surprise ending had us follow Darkseid going to Earth it would be like the flipside of Avengers.
And if Darkseid is JLA's first villain then it isn't the same as Avengers going alien for its 2nd. It would really seem like a ripoff if they did Darkseid for the 2nd movie.

It would be easy to distinguish them visually too. Darkseid looks way different than Thanos.

Starro isn't bad if it went on people's chest the way it did for Superman in Batman Beyond.

Then you get a body snatcher vibe (but not as subtly as there is a fish on his chest).
Speaking of Avengers, I don't think their Skrulls are going to be setting up a "secret invasion" right away. Hee hee, DC could beat Marvel to that storyline with Starros.

There's no reason why you couldn't just have Starro use something like "Starrotech" from Young Justice. If you go the biotechnology route, then Starro could hack weapons systems, cause nationwide blackouts, shut down the financial sector, or cause worldwide panic in a lot of ways that would make it a very different kind of alien invasion from the one seen in the Avengers.
Batman: What are you doing here Deadman?
Deadman: We've only met when I was an invisible ghost talking through other people. How did you know it was me?
    Batman: I'm Batman.
    Deadman: Touché.

I totally get the Starro love. I really do. He's old school. Hardcore fans love 'im. And he does work well in animated cartoons. I'll give you that.

But I don't see any screenwriter or any of DC's higher-ups (Nelson, Johns, Didio or Lee) going out of their way to pitch "Evil Alien Starfish Invasion" to Warner Brothers as the ideal way to launch a huge hit Justice League movie. No way, no how. It just isn't happening.

Second, if Mark Millar is correct, we're talking something dark, mature and real world-based. I could conceivably see Darkseid fitting that bill. But to me, it sounds like something more along the lines of Luthor, Vandal Savage, Kobra, Doctor Destiny, Professor Ivo, Felix Faust, maybe even Neron or The Key. I'm inclined to think we'll see an earth-based villain who uses super advanced technology or one who uses black magic/the dark arts.

But after Avengers, I don't see aliens in a dark, mature Justice League film--and I certainly don't expect alien starfish.

I'm not saying Starro is the right choice. I'm just saying that it could be done. There are so many different ways to interpret and present these characters that nothing can really be ruled out. I really don't think that Starro is the best option, but a Justice League movie is going to face the unique challenge of introducing a number of iconic heroes at the same time, something that's never really been done on a scale like this.

A challenge like that makes me think that Darkseid, a complex character who is an iconic figure in his own right, might not be the best option. Iron Man and Batman Begins both showed that a movie can succeed while putting the hero front and center and giving the villain comparatively less attention. A Justice League movie isn't going to have solo movies to fall back on for characterization like the Avengers. It is going to have to give the audience time to get to know these characters and give them a reason to care about what happens to them, while still providing big budget summer blockbuster thrills. I think the only way to do that is with a villain that isn't going to hold the movie back with their own complicated backstory that would take time away from introducing the heroes, a problem that you would encounter with Darkseid.

One of the benefits of using Starro (albeit in a drastically altered form), or another villain of the same ilk, is that it would allow for more time to get to know the heroes while still providing a credible threat. Using Darkseid in the first movie would be like using the Joker in Batman Begins. Why not save Darkseid for a sequel, where you can give him the time he deserves?
