I currently have the older editions of Knightfall and have never read anything else from this big story. I need an opinion about these new collections. Now I know, I've been reading, that not everyone here is happy that they don't include some of the whole story (The Search). I get that, and I'm trying to put that thought aside. What I'm asking is if I had a way to get Prodigal online for $30, am I really missing out, quality wise, on the other stuff that was finally collected in these (I guess Knightquest)?
Funny thing is either option may end up costing about the same because I was going to take advantage of Barnes & Noble's buy 2 get 1 free deal. With all three Knightfall books already close to half off plus one free it would only be $37.
    Thanks.

If you have the older editions of Knightfall, get the 2nd volume ("Knightquest"), since you don't have that collected at all. You don't need the first volume (the only extra it has is Vengeance of Bane, and none of the issues between that and the rest of Knightfall that you've already collected).

Personally, I was in the same boat - so I just grabbed "Prodigal" for $40, since I already had Knightsend. Yes, just getting the new edition would've been cheaper, but that book is so thick, it must be a pain to read - it seems like it'd be more fun to read Knightsend and Prodigal as their own volumes, both for the physical experience and the fact that they're two separate stories. And what would I have done with my superfluous Knightsend book?

$30 is a good deal for Prodigal, wish I had found it that cheap. If I were you, I'd get that and then use the Barnes & Nobel deal to get Knightquest and 2 other non-Knightfall books.

To be honest, these are great trades, and they aren't hard to read at all. Binding's great, and no text get's lost. Relatively lightweight as well!

Thanks for the idea. For some reason it never even dawned on me that the first volume of the new one is just the first two of the old one put together, minus that Bane issue. I guess I thought the new material was all spaced out, but pretty much getting the second one would be practically the only new issues besides Prodigal. I like your idea of having that story separate, but the stupid OCD voice in my head is telling me I have to get the whole new set so they go together. I hate that voice, it's really annoying and I should tell it to shut up more often. As for where the $30 copy is from, it's Amazon. After a second look the description looks sketchy but there seems to be a better one from another seller for only $5 more.

I don't know, I find something that thick is just hard to carry around or slip in my backpack.

Reading on the couch is one thing, but reading it on the train during a commute or something means size can be an issue.

They are great for the home, I agree; they are not so good when it comes to travel. Wish they'd have re-released the trades digitally, too.

They've been released as Kindle books for about $17 apiece.

I guess if there was some good news it's that DC COULD release. Vol. 0 that included Sword of Azrael and the prelude issues and include a Vol. 2.5 that is just The Search. Those that don't like the Search wouldn't have to buy it.

I would raise the grade of this 3 volume set from a C+ to a B+. The only way it would get an A is if DC had used Marvel quality matte semi gloss paper. For me anyway. I know some of you disagree.

I wasn't aware you didn't like the paper DC used for this set of books

Is the matte paper the one in the Watchmen trade? If so, then yes, I would have liked that kind of paper, and I would like "Knightfall: The missing chapter" that would run a bit cheaper and have Sword of Azrael, 487-490, and the Search.
