DC is smart enough to know that a Steel book wont sell enough by itself, better idea is to bring back Adventure Comics and have superman teamup with other DC characters, and have half the book be a superman family story, that way you get characters like Steel, but he doesnt have to carry a book by himself, and you also get superman looking super with characters that are well known,or the ones who are cool, but cant carry their own book either.
    Dont mess with the "S"

That's exactly what I'm talking about, if you had seen what I have in mind for another superman-RELATED book at the very beginning of this thread...

Quite frankly, right now, not so interested in this idea actually...but if there is going to be a book like this and see the actual material, I can see there is a chance I will be quite fond of it for sure.

Why would you want to tone him down? He's Superman, the greatest hero and the world has known. Both in comics and out of it.

Also I'm kinda suprised at the reboot screwing Supes again, I thought things where changing.

Why not Dev-Em as a random Kryptonian then? After all, he was Jor-El's neighbour. Or an escapee from the Phantom Zone? I think that this concept will only generate enough for a mini-series.

So, basically revive DC Comics Presents?

Actually, things are changing...in action comics, but in superman, it's quite a mess right now. And I heard from the interview that superman was actually in the center of discussion when DC was going to pull out this the new 52 stuff...now I don't get how they discussed it as a priority and still made quite a mess...no long term plan, no actual meaning or influence of their changes of superman, and no nothing...pure failure.

Not if you have a long term plan. When I think about this story, image's sage series popped up in my mind. That one is pure genius and clearly have a long term vision. You know, it's all about krypton's history and culture and events and a great adventure in the universe, which is quite a big place. Done it right, I am sure it will take a long time to fill this vaccum in superman's mythology.

We do (at present), but it's not a monthly team-up book.

Ok, that's true. I gradually think this idea might be working, but since I am a reader starting from about two years ago, I am not quite familiar with this concept. Would you mind explaining more about this? Is it a book collecting stand-alone stories every issue or it's actually have a continuity? Thanks!

    Interesting, huh?

Lodbell or not, whoever it is will have to be good because Merino was the only decent thing on this title IMO.

I think DC did have a plan of sorts.

If nothing else, they've returned Clark to being the first hero once more. That's something he has not been able to claim within continuity for thirty years. So there's that. In Justice League, I think Johns and Lee did their best to showcase that Clark is more powerful than the rest of them. I mean, pre-Flashpoint, would we ever have seen Superman punk Batman, Flash, and Green Lantern at once? I highly doubt it. Honestly, Im sure that before the reboot Superman would have lost to all three of them, even if they were one-on-one. Granted Johns cant actually write Clark's dialogue for anything, but the intent seems to be there.

So those have to count for something. And Morrison clearly has a plan. I think the problem DC ran into with the Superman title is that they hired Perez to do some world building, and let's be honest the world building he did was pretty awesome. Perez built the "new" status quo, but I think everyone planned to leave it at that, so others could build upon it. I think the goal was to have an organic evolution of ideas, building in and out and off of everything else going on in the DCU, that could take advantage of the insight of multiple writers. Sadly, the execution has not met the hopes.

Shame that DC ran off Chris Roberson. His work on Grounded was pretty solid and I would absolutely love to see what he can do when he is not limited to finishing off a JMS plot. Hell I stuck with Grounded just because I wanted to see him lay the groundwork for his own stuff, assuming he remained on the title. Ended up a waste of money and ideas. We will likely never see the Fortress of Solidarity again, or the new Super Chief, or any of the cool ideas Roberson brought with him.
