This movie looked fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.

But, the story itself wasn't very good IMO. That's all there is to it. They had everything they needed to make a great film, except a decent script.

a friend of mine told me this evening that one of the writers for "Lost" was attached to the screenplay-- my first thought was "that explains nearly all of the negative reactions thus far!"

knowing that almost made me give up hope completely! I never planned on paying more than a matinee price-- so I'm hoping it's worth that much, at least.

disappointing to read more about it-- because they certainly got enough talent involved once the scripting stage was finished.

Yeah go matinee. Paying less will probably give the movie more leverage.

    Default Prometheus - The Progenitor

    Spoilers follow, so beware.

The most poignant moment in the movie was at the beginning where the Progenitor was sacrificed to seed the Earth with the DNA of it's source. From then on the discussion of whether we came from a higher being was less an issue than what they were trying to achieve, because later we learn, they were returning to Earth to wipe us out, but were stopped by calamity.

So I wonder, whether Ridley Scotts surmising about a Progenitor, had anything to do with why we were produced? Scott announces that if we were a mere experiment, how do humans fit into the success or the failure of the experiment? We saw other species like the Worm, the Octopus and the Alien, and to all intents and purposes, what the Progenitors left on Earth was just another one of those attempts at colonization as far as I can tell. But it goes deeper than that because we, humans on Earth, resembled them as humanoids, so there must have been some purpose to experimenting with that.

The Moon the Prometheus arrived at, was an isolated military base, so the Progenitor who awoke would have been of the military rank, and predictably so, started to mount a defense, by attacking the strangers. I don't think that Progenitor was the right person to be asking about why they made Humans. The fact that Shaw is now returning to the home world of the Progenitor, tells me that Shaw wants to speak to the experimenters themselves, not the military carrying out the experiments and destructions. So to me, the question that Shaw has to ask, is, were humans what they expected, or, were we too war like to allow to live? Maybe, humans were the real danger to the Progenitors, because now we came to seek THEM out?

I think this was my most anticipated movie of the year and I was thoroughly disappointed. I think what bothered me more than anything is how stupid some of the characters were.

Yeah, a lot of people are looking to blame Lindelof since it seems unbelievable that such a team of actors and movie makers could fail. I'm less convinced: the editing, score and creature design also failed. It's very clear that there are character scenes on the cutting room floor. Does that mean the overall plot and quality of the movie would make it a masterpiece with an extended edition? Probably not, but it may become palatably logical.

Lost may have been filled with mysteries that went nowehere, but it had consistent themes and some of the best characters to grace television. It was certainly helped by wonderful directing for a TV show and probably the best original sound-track on TV. The Hatch was far more interesting than the Urn room in this movie anyway.

i really liked the movie. i enjoyed it more than i did with the Avengers.

it got me talking. it got me thinking some stuff.

and Fassbender gave an AMAZING performance. wow. Rapace was kinda weak - but she did pull through during and after her medical-thingy. (you guys have to admit, you be a hater or no, that THAT scene got you excited/terrified)

when I keep reading about ideas that are suggested and NEVER get resolved, too many characters without enough to do; when I read that nearly every single character does something inexplicable and foolish for no apparent reason-- these sorts of things can get 'resolved' in a multi-episode television show. you can go back and write in an explanation to justify the early 'shocking scene'. but in a movie you've got less time-- it's harder to write in a scene that allows viewers to go "aha! that's what they were thinking!"

even the persistent complaints (on multiple websites from numerous people) of "they saved too much for the sequel" sounds like something from "Lost".

obviously it's not JUST Lindelof's fault-- I'm sure that Spaihts and Scott have their fair share of blame-- but nearly all of the major flaws with the films script can be found in "Lost". and out of all those participants he's the one with the most hands-on writing experience. so it seems logical to, y'know, blame him first. Scott has certainly made his fair share of clunkers, though.

seeing all those humanoids in the trailer made me suspicious-- disappointing that they decided to go THAT route. it's not like they were lacking for money.

Me either, to a point. Clone Ripley stole the show, and whenever AR comes on TV I have to stop and watch at least some of it. And the first AVP was fun. The second one...its very very hard to watch, mostly cause of the dialogue.

Anyway, I keep reading that people loved the visuals but hates/was disappointed in the story for Prometheus. I wonder if Scott is setting it up for more sequels? But either way I'll be sure to check it out anyway.
I have this idea for the next X-teme Games Gold Medal Event--Bear Tickling. Its like Bull riding but more X-treme! You are timed on how long you can tickle a bear before he attacks you.

It just simply wasn't very good. The connections to Alien were tenuous and nonsensical, the only compelling character wasn't human, no one's motivations were clear, there's a lot of stupid decisions made by very smart people...there is not satisfaction, no pay off whatsoever. It's sort of useless. It didn't affect anything.

But Fassbender and the special effects were incredible.

i watched avpr recently i didnt really notice the dialogue being too bad, its just that all the characters are dicks (cept for the ripley type heroine) for me the monster action was enough for me to like it a bit more than ressurection and avp.
the pred in Avpr was So damn badass.
and i genuinly like ressurection until the last 20 minutes when the stupid alien/human hybird shows up.
