Default EXCLUSIVE: Snyder Welcome Becky Cloonan To "Batman" #12

For a special one-shot coda to "Night of the Owls," writer Scott Snyder taps fan favorite artist Becky Cloonan to draw an electrifying story that will introduce a major new player to the cast of Gotham City characters in "Batman" #12.

Fantastic choice of artists. With Capullo, Albuquerque and now Cloonan, Snyder's totally bringing a nice, different flavour of artist to the Batbooks. And before people go 'oh, Morrison brought Quitely with him, that's a different flavour' - he did it for three issues. And whilst those issues were great, they were just three issues.

Given it's dealing with the new girl Snyder introduced earlier on, though.. Cloonan's the perfect choice. Kudos to DC management for letting more esoteric choices of artist on the book.

I love her art, but never followed anything she was a part of! I'm so glad to be having her in Batman. Oh, and I've always thought she was so damn cute!

Andy Clarke is doing the backup!

Nice to hear that the Gotham Initiative will continue to come into play. And I like the idea that a story from the point of view of civilian will be told, I think Snyder actually writes "normal" characters really well even though he's known for being dark and horror-y. Also, I'm wondering what Harper's role will end up being after this. The idea that she could be an Oracle-type sidekick for Batman would make sense...hm.

Yeah that was really buried in the story, wasn't it?

But great news. Good choice of artists, Cloonan's work will really fit Harper's look in my opinion. We also learn a few details about her, she has a brother, lives (I think?) in the Narrows, works on Gotham's electrical grid.

This makes it seem even more likely that "the lady in red" in issue 1, is Harper.

Yeah, it does. Perhaps either her design changed since issue 1(just as Freeze and Croc's faces changed from issue 1) or she lives a double life somehow.

Where you who the person who suggested she may use a disguise? I think that's very plausible.

That was me, yeah. Perhaps the parents she emancipated from are actually rich, which could get her on the guest list at a Wayne function. Hell, maybe her parents were/are with the Court, explaining how this is a "coda/epilogue" to the Court of Owls. I think that'd be an interesting dynamic, someone who chooses poverty because of their morals. And one of Snyder's short prose stories was actually about a guy on the run from his wealthy family.
