CHALLENGE 9: CBR FASHION WEEK

Hello. Welcome to the Runway! As you know, in fashion, one day you're in and the next you're out.

Unfortunately AnkaleRa was unable to complete her designs in time so he has forfeited. Which means after many weeks of rigorous design challenges there are now only two of you. After this week there will be only one.

PLEASE VOTE for the designer whose line you feel best completes the challenge, taking into consideration overall performance during this season of Project CBRunway. Voting should be based on the design and whether or not it meets the challenge requirements, not art ability. The designer with the most votes will be the winner of Project CBRunway.

The winning designer will walk away with an exciting prize pack, including his or her choice of one of:

Challenge 9: CBR Fashion Week

Your challenge for CBR Fashion Week is to create the title, concept and cast of a new comic book inspired by...YOU.

You must create three protagonists and two antagonists named after yourself, the two other finalists, and two other CBR users of your choosing. You get to decide which CBR users fill which roles.

Each character should visually represent their user name, if possible, or evoke that user's online personality. Thematically, while there's no requirement for any similarities between the looks of your characters, there should be a cohesivenes to your book's cast (i.e. they all need to work in the same book).

You will be judged on creativity, originality, strength of your designs, and cohesiveness of your cast, also taking into consideration your overall performance during this season of Project CBRunway.

Submission Requirements

1. Artwork may be done in any medium but must be in color.
2. Artwork may be no larger than 550-pixels wide and 800-pixels long. For challenges requiring multiple characters, each character should be submitted separately.
3. Entries must be inserted into your PM, using such services as Photobucket.com or imageShack.com. If you are unable to use such a service you may e-mail your entry and we will host the image for you for the duration of the competition.
4. For each character you must provide:
   
   • a three-sentence description of the costume explaining material, functionality, and design inspiration.
   • a three sentence biography explaining origin, powers, motivation, and, for the two non-finalists, why you chose those user names.
   
   
5. You must also compile a group shot (using either the individual designs or original artwrok) and include in that post the title and a three-sentence description of the overall theme and inspiration of your book.

Born in the distant future of 2034, and being utterly generic, End of Time (aka Captain Generic) he was destined to become not just a member, but also leader of the Generic Corps. Bland and boring, with nothing to complain about, no dark past, just a stable and everlasting present. Captain Generic wields the power of sympathy, crippling enemies by making them feel sorry for him and those near him. The costume is a uniform, made from an unknown material. I wanted a unified look that still allowed for a cohesive look to the team.

Born on an exotic planet where plants became sentient, AnkeleRa decided to clip his leaves and go explore the cosmos, only to end up in the Generic Corps, where as Plant-Guy he is the brains behind the whole operation. He can communicate with plant-life and manipulate plant-life, forcing them to grow or wither in mere minutes. The costume had to resemble Captain Generic's costume, so red is the linking colour here, but the green to emphasize his plant-origins. Tree-people tend to be deep and meaningful, but also a bit weird and distant.

A sprite from some place not quite mystical, Atoningunifex manipulates the odds in his own favor. He's there for his own reasons, and while many have guessed, none have guessed correctly. I wanted to make a fun character, and with Atoningunifex you can always count on two things... crazy details and collars. I tried to incorporate those two elements into this design.

If you can't beat them, join them. Once a member of the Corps, now a rogue agent who's often seen as mattbib's second in command. He wields the power of evilness and drama, forcing people to scream bloody murder at the slightest perceived wrongdoing. The standard uniform, warped and twisted into something that is recognizably dark-yet-connected.

A disembodied head in a jar of unknown fluid, this mastermind known as mattbib, Lord of Evil has sworn to torment others and yell out assignments. Auf Wiedersehen indeed! To emphasize the evil nature, a moustache and a goatee (double the evil)

Atoning Unifex is the only self-sponsored Universal Champion. Once upon a future he almost destroyed the universe and was thrown back into the past. Now he attempts to atone for the damage he caused and hopes to finish first and create a peaceful, connected universe. Atoning Unifex's outfit is worn away and in tatters. The themes and common threads start here; covered faces, patterns in relief, and playful symmetry.The face mask reveals nothing and everything at the same time.

The sun-loving hedonists of the universe have banded together to sponsor this solar-powered Champion. AnkaleRa is the youngest of the Universal Champions and takes his duties very, very seriously- to the occasional dismay of his less-than-serious sponsors. If Atoning Unifex is in tatters, AnkaleRa is sunlight exploding. Skin bare, tattoos moving, AnkaleRa is all fire and light.

Jack Flash is the Universal Champion of the Great Race of Elemental Giants. Jack can move between a solid and a gas state and also has control over electricity. He's in it to win, but his big heart and his sense of fun make him a genial companion along the way. Jack's outfit is meant to evoke electricity and his pose is solid and commanding. His costume is all about high contrast. I chose Jed as one of my characters because he's fun, he's a family man, and he would make a swell hero.

End of Time is the Champion of the Nihilistic Nuns of the Great Ending, a group dedicated to ending the universe and stopping another from being born. End of Time isn't evil, he simply believes that there should be one shot and that's it. I didn't really want to make End of Time a villain, but how could I not with that name and this concept? End of Time is the most cosmically designed of the characters. His outfit consists of small amounts of cloth covering his cosmic body.

Matt Bib is the Champion of the Boy/Girl/Other Scouts of the Outer Reaches. In order to earn the elusive Dark Villain of All Time Merit Badge Matt Bib has forsworn his upstanding, moral ways and embraces evil. Philosophically complex, he is driven to win and enjoys setting elaborate traps and challenges for his rivals. For Matt I wanted to design something vaguely reminiscent of the Boy Scouts but also sleek. The sash contains his evil merit badges and he's holding the remote control to a devilish trap that he's set for the contestants. I wanted to cast Matt as a villain because he isn't one and because it's a lot of fun to tease him. :)

The universe is ending one minute at a time, and there are many, many groups of people who have a vested interest in how it ends. These groups sponsor Universal Champions who are in a race to the end of the universe. Whoever gets there first and holds on longest decides how this universe ends...and the next begins.
