Wait . . . Jean-Luc's alive? I thought he was dead, though I honestly can't remember how he died.

Because he didn't. It was hinted that he was dying in Fabian's Gambit series and that is why Remy was left to run the combined Guilds when Jean-Luc "disappeared" and was talking to Dr. Strange but nothing ever came of it. Since "dying" is a relative term for a guy who's taken the Elixir and is over 100 years old, I prefer to think Jean-Luc is back in charge of the Thieves Guild now that Remy has exposed the white devil prophesy of the Old Kingdom as big mistake to end the world and start it anew (some Celestial mess as usual I'm sure). Jean-Luc and Belle have some to some peace and let the two Guild go their separate ways as they should ending the whole United mess. So the Thieves are back to doing what they do best not worrying about the Thieves and vice versa as show by the Assassins showing up in Scarlet Spider.

I've always adored Jean-Luc, Lapin, Henri, Mercy and Tante Mattie. Gambit has one of the best families in the MU. I actually liked Julien for the crazy bastard he was and Gris Gris, and Marius for being the professionals they are. Belle was a cipher to me until her recent shows away from Gambit. At least now she actually seems like an assassin not just a plot device.

Thanks. It's been a while since I've read Fabian's Gambit series, but I remember that plot line in the Gambit 2000 annual now. If that's the strongest evidence they have for suggesting he's dead, there's no reason why they can't bring him back tomorrow without much explanation.

I know it might be regressive, but I hope that Jean-Luc and the rest of Gambit's awesome family (well, what's left of it) show up in the new series. I don't necessary want it to be about the Guilds in New Orleans, but it would be a shame if they didn't make the odd cameo appearance. Especially Tante Mattie, who is my favourite parent-figure in the X-Books. :)

Why does the Marvel wikia have her as dead in Gambit #22? I remember her voting for Gambit in that issue . . . not dying.

Those things are loaded wth mistakes, as is the Handbook , unfortunately.

Yes, after the Dr. Strange dealings, in Layman's GAMBIT series, it does mention Jean-Luc again, so, he's definitively alive.

I also agree with you, that it would be nice to see Gambit's family interact with him again in his new solo , but, I wouldn't want it to be a Guild series either. It would almost be weird not to have Remy's kin show up to support him.

I kind of forgot, but is Julien dead now? For real, this time I mean.

Speaking of Tante Mattie, she was good in that LS with Gambit and the 'Angel'.
