So you can see the scenery that the comics are set in? You're not going to be able to see the Baxter Building or the Daily Bugle offices anyway. 'Sides, both New York and California are a few hundred dollars flight from Florida anyway. It is cheaper to go to New York, but it's well over the price of an extra-value meal at McDonalds, even if it's super-sized.
some people have legit complaints, some are just butthurt and don't want to plan ahead or can't afford to go....ive been to SDCC 3 times and I live in CT...which is an hour drive to JFK or Laguardia, a 5 1/2 hour flight and all the fun travel stuff that comes with it

There's a group here in Australia that organizes media sf conventions - they brought Shatner over, for example.
They have a very different business model to most conventions: they have A guest, charge several hundred dollars per head fro a single day event and attract, say, 50-100 people.
The result is a much more relaxed, friendly and up-close experience.
If someone offered that with say, Pratchett or Moore, I'd be all over it.
I've never been to SDCC before. It's hard to buy those tickets. They sell out so quick and I'm told this con isn't just about comics.
Ive never been to SDCC.Have no desire to go. It looks way too crazy and packed for me. I go to Heroes Con every year. And thats a good enough con for me.
