I cannot see Gail taking back over the writing for the comic book any time soon.. HOWEVER, I would LOVE for her to be hired as writer for a Wonder Woman movie!
If we're looking to bring back a classic writer, I suspect Messner-Loebs would make a better follow up to Azzarello's run than Simone would.

Never know what you had till its gone. I regret everything bad I ever said about her run.
virtue untested is innocence
This is a great post summing up how Gail wrote the perfect Wonder Woman.

Gail Simone is so over-rated, i know she is one of DC's few women writers but that should not elevate her in any way.
Exactly. It's sad when I see some people saying that the director of a possibly WW movie should be an woman, (almost) saying it would be a certain that the movie would be good because an woman directed a female character movie.
There are things Gail wrote that even showed some kind of diminish of women (guess she was trying to force one side to show another, but failed)

Simone isn't being "elevated" because she's a woman - many people like her work. Simone's Birds of Prey and Secret Six are well-crafted and very entertaining. Her WW and Batgirl aren't as solid, but still very good, imo.
Rucka's WW run is my favorite; Picoult's is one of my least liked. I believe men can write women well, and women can write women poorly.
Nevertheless, Simone's WW was the first, and really only time, I've felt we were truly getting a fully realized woman's voice for Diana and Hippolyta. That is the biggest reason I'm a fan of Simone's WW.

Maybe not around here, but there are people who do "elevate" her for being an woman, like the way I said about WW movie director.

The talking gorillas were the death knell among other components of that run (Simone). I really liked the JMS stuff... That was interesting, though the authors keep falling into the same rut we are TOLD how strong Diana is but we don't see feats of power to equate and confirm in in panels. To Simones one credit, she did show diana taking good punches from Genocide and nuke etc....
I think that's partially true, she's elevated because she's a woman that can write kick-ass, violent, stories better than most men. She's well respected because she creates interesting characters that are original and have legs. Sadly some of that wasn't evident in her Wonder Woman run.
I also think if I have to have male Amazons, I prefer her version created by Zeus. At least then we could compare and contrast the two islands Themyscira and Thalarion, and we never got to see the latter's rivers of gold. The Gargareans were also warriors and could battle alongside the Amazons. Hephaestus' workers seem worthless as allies.
